Are you suffering from any of the following symptoms: * Pain or stiffness in the neck? * Headaches for no apparent reason? * Sore, tight shoulders? * Improper posture? * Difficulty in rotating your neck? * Tension headaches? We’re seeing more and more cases of neck pain at our clinic, and this increase in this particular kind of pain can be attributed to sedentary lifestyles where people spend much of their days sitting in chairs and crouching over screens. A neck injury can be very debilitating, especially when it causes acute pain. The neck is involved in so many different movements throughout the day that you may not even realize it until it starts to give you trouble. Anyone who has experienced neck pain in the past or is experiencing that pain now will know exactly what we mean. Why do you have neck pain? The reasons behind neck pain can be quite varied. To determine the cause of your neck pain, we have to perform a comprehensive assessment. We start by ruling out medical problems and physical injury. Besides those, the most common reason for neck pain is postural problems like mechanical imbalances in spine. If your spine and body are imbalanced, that can put pressure on parts of the neck or head. The joints, bones, nerves, discs, and muscles may cause you pain because of the pressure placed on them. We can often tell when there is a mechanical imbalance due to a patient’s poor posture. Neck pain can be chronic for many people, flaring up to become quite severe from time to time. When this happens, it can hinder your ability to function. Because neck mobility is so important, we are dedicated to helping you get relief from neck pain so that you can enjoy your life. The Root Source of Neck Pain What could be causing neck pain for you? Every person is different, and their neck pain can be different as well. That being said, there are a few common causes for neck pain we see most often: * sitting in one place for too long * having your pillow set at the wrong height * sleeping on a mattress that is too soft * injuring your neck in sports * experiencing a physical trauma to the neck * suffering stress * suffering from a disease (uncommon) We always start treating our patients by determining whether we are the best people to provide care for them. If we believe that chiropractic care is not right for you, we will refer you to the proper specialist. At Northcote Chiropractic, poor posture is the most common cause for neck pain we see. This is especially true in cases where the patient has a forward head posture. When someone is in this position and has that forward pointing posture, this puts a lot of strain on the components of the head and neck. How We Treat Neck Pain The approach we use for chiropractic care is the same one that is used throughout the world to great result. We work on our patients’ posture, and when we can correct the imbalances there, our patients will feel better and have their mobility back. As we stabilise the structures of the spine and the body, they patient will be able to have better posture. Once we see an improvement in their posture, we know that this alleviates pressure from the bones, discs, muscles, nerves, and ligaments. It helps take some of the stress off of the spine and the neck, and that reduces pain in these areas. It permits the body to heal in its own, natural way. Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms: * An aching sensation in the head? * Migraine headaches? * Throbbing pain in the head? * Sore and tired eyes after using a computer? * Tension around the eyes? Headaches are one of the most common health problems we witness at our practice. This is primarily due to how much time people spend in front of their screens and the amount of stress they experience. Chronic headaches are a problem for many people these days, whether they work in front of a screen or not. They are often a symptom of a sedentary lifestyle. Headaches can be a regular part of life for many. They can be become so common that people know the warning signs of an incoming headache. Then, they start stressing and worrying about when the headache will occur. Why do you experience migraines and headaches? The reason for headaches and migraines is going to vary from person to person. Everyone is different, which is why we take time to look at their clinical history and perform an extensive examination. We want to make sure that we reach an accurate conclusion about the cause of the headaches. Some headaches can be caused by serious factors and will need to be assessed and treated by a specialist other than a chiropractor. In these cases, we will refer you to the appropriate specialist. If there is imbalance in the body or particularly the spine, this can put pressure on various parts of the head and neck. It can cause headaches when there is pressure on your joints, discs, bones, muscles, and nerves in these areas. Because of the way the head and neck nerves are related, an injury or mechanical change in the neck can cause headaches. These are known as referred headaches. We see a few different kinds of mechanical headaches in our practice, with the most common being cervicogenic and tension type headaches. How We Treat Headaches The method we use for treating patients suffering from chronic headaches is to start by assessing their condition and determining the root cause. We attempt to correct underlying problems with the structure and imbalances in posture. As we correct your posture, this will increase your mobility and relieve pain. Every time you visit us for treatment, we will assess your posture and determine what treatment is necessary to improve it. Once your posture starts to improve, there won’t be as much pressure on your neck and spine. You should feel less pain and be able to move more easily, feeling less restriction. Are you suffering from one or more of the following symptoms: * Pain when you move your shoulder? * Pain when you sleep on a specific side? * A shoulder joint ache? * Trouble carrying items with one arm? * Difficulty doing daily tasks like putting on your clothes? * Pain when you move your shoulder? Your shoulder joint is used for a number of functions and movements, so if there is a problem with your shoulder, it’s going to have an effect on much of what you do during the day. Your shoulder has many tendons, ligaments, nerves, bones, and muscles, and all of these can become injured. Why might you have shoulder pain? Shoulder pain, according to our experience, is often not a problem with the shoulder alone. More often than not, who is caused by poor posture or a problem with the entire body. Shoulder pain could be caused by any number of issues, which is why we take time to conduct an extensive examination and a thorough clinical history. If there is no physical damage to the shoulder and there is no underlying medical problem, then shoulder pain can be most often attributed to problems with the structure of the spine or imbalances in the posture. When your posture tends to be slouching and forward slanted, that puts pressure on your shoulder joint. This can make it easier for your shoulder to become injured or for you to feel pain in that area. If you stay in that forward position with rounded shoulders for much of the day, your shoulder is more likely to be injured. This puts strain on your shoulder while you stay in this posture, and that means it will take longer for shoulder injuries to heal. Here’s an example from real life: Try sitting upright and keeping your arms to your sides. Then, raise them above your head. Next, change your posture so that your shoulders are stop forward and your posture is forward as well. Try to do the same motion with your arms, and you should see that it is more difficult to raise the shoulders in a smooth motion using this posture. What could be causing shoulder pain an improper posture? It could be caused by any of the following: * sitting for too long while you work or drive * inadequate back support * the wrong height on your pillow * a mattress that is excessively soft * direct injuries * repetitive sports injuries * repetitive strain injuries Our Method of Chiropractic Care We approach chiropractic treatment and shoulder pain in a way that targets improper posture and imbalances in alignment. We help to relieve pain and restore normal movement by correcting postural problems. We use a method that chiropractors around the world use to correct improper posture help alleviate pain. Once this treatment starts to work, you can feel better and move more freely. We stabilise your posture by improving it over time. As posture improves, pressure is relieved from the area around the shoulders and spine. This decreases pain in your muscles, discs, nerves, ligaments, and bones. You’ll notice increased mobility in your shoulder and your body will be able to heal on its own in a natural manner. Do you have shoulder pain? Are you suffering from any of the following symptoms: * A tingling sensation or numbness in your legs or buttocks? * Trouble getting out of bed in the morning? * A slouching posture? * Pain from standing in one place for too long? * Tightness in your muscles or muscle spasms? * Pain or stiffness in your back? * Trouble with performing everyday functions like putting on your socks? * Pain between your shoulder blades? Back pain is incredibly common and one of the health problems we see most often in our office. About 16% of all Australians suffered from back problems in 2017, which comes out to about 4,000,000 people. This statistic from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare is alarming and shows just how widespread back pain is just within this country. Why might you be experiencing back pain? There are number of potential causes, and that’s why we perform an extensive assessment for each of our patients. We first rule out any underlying disease as well as any type of physical trauma. The most common factor for back pain besides those is a mechanical imbalance or a structural problem with the spine. The most notable indicator of some sort of spinal imbalance is poor posture. When a person changes their overall posture, specifically by moving their posture forward, it can have a negative effect on the lower back. It can place pressure on parts of the lower back, like the discs, bones, joints, and muscles in that area. This can lead to serious dysfunction and chronic back pain. Many people suffer from chronic back pain that flares up frequently. Of course, this can limit your ability to function in both work and play. Just performing simple daily tasks can become painful. We know how important it is for you to have freedom of movement, and that is why we are dedicated to giving you freedom from back pain and helping you to live your life the way it should be lived. What Causes Back Pain? Each person is different, and the reasons for their back pain can be different as well. However, there are some common causes for back pain that we see most often, like the following: * not getting enough physical activity * sleeping on a very soft mattress * experiencing physical trauma * repetitive motion injury from playing sports * sitting for too long, particularly with bad posture * emotional or mental stress * underlying medical conditions (uncommon) To start our chiropractic care for each patient, we first determine if that patient is a viable candidate for the kind of care we provide. If we determine that you are not, we will help you find the right specialist for your problem. To help determine your viability for chiropractic care, we assess your clinical history and perform a full physical examination. How We Approach Chiropractic Care Our chiropractic method is all about correcting posture and realigning the spinal structure to relieve pressure and alleviate pain. This is a method used by chiropractors all around the globe, and it helps to correct problems with the spine and the body to ensure you can move better and feel better. This process of enabling better posture over a period of time what we call stabilisation. Once we see an improvement in posture, that means that your muscles, discs, nerves, bones, and ligaments start experiencing less pressure. These areas around the spine and lower back will start to feel better, and you will have more mobility and less pain. You can call us to book an appointment or you can book it online.
