The US presidential race has become extremely close, with the contest between
the Democratic vice-president, Kamala Harris, and the Republican former
president, Donald Trump, having settled into a statistical tie. The final result
is now a toss-up, and vote-counting delays mean that a winner will probably not
be clear right after Election Day.

US hopes to influence Israel’s stance on war

 
On October 14th the US delivered the first components of its Terminal High
Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile‑defence system—which will be operated by
100 US troops—to Israel. Once the THAAD becomes operational, EIU expects an
Israeli targeted strike on Iran in the coming weeks.
