Henry donated the collection he built with his late wife Susan of 178 works of art, along with funds for construction. The Henry Art Gallery opened to the public on February 10, 1927. At the museum, you will find exhibitions by an always-rotating roster of international artists working at many different scales and media—from intimate photography installations to monumental immersive experiences, sometimes drawn from our permanent collection. As the only museum solely dedicated to contemporary art in our region, they collaborate with emerging and established artists to explore topics important to our times—identity, representation, sustainability, and more. The Burke opened a new building in October 2019, designed by Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig.
