Dear Fellow Californian,

While the next open enrollment period isn't until fall, you still may be
eligible for health coverage during the current special enrollment period if you
have a qualifying life event. What is a qualifying life event? Watch the video
below to learn more.

When you apply for health coverage through Covered California you will be able
to compare quality health insurance plans from private brand-name companies.

After you’re done with your application, you will see the financial
help available to your household which lowers the monthly premium that you would
pay for coverage. The amount of financial help you may get is based on your
income, household size, the age of people needing coverage and where you live.

you could save – it takes less than 5 minutes! You’ll be able to see the monthly
cost, cost for primary care visits, annual deductible and the amount of
financial help you may qualify to receive: 



Time is limited! For most qualifying life events, you have 60 days from the date
of your qualifying event to enroll in a health plan. After you enroll, please
make your first payment using the “Pay Now” feature that is available
immediately after you select your health plan and e-sign. If your health plan is
$0 per month, you will not see a pay now button.

In 2022, you may be eligible to enroll in a Covered California plan at a reduced
monthly cost if your expected income is, for example, about $19,320 as a single
person or about $39,750 for a household of four at any time of the year. To view
the other household sizes, look at the 150% Federal Poverty Level (FPL) column
on this chart.

Remember: In the State of California, having health insurance for the entire
year is the law. If you don’t have it, you may have to pay a penalty, unless you
qualify for an exemption. 

If you paid a penalty on your 2021 taxes for not having health insurance, you
may be able to enroll in a health plan for 2022 during special enrollment. Just
use the qualifying life event “Paid the penalty for not having health insurance”
when you complete your application. To begin, log in to your account or create
one , then select the paid penalty qualifying life event and submit your
application.
