We will continue to operate at all times, including in markets where nearby universities have returned to partial or full in-person learning as well as those that have been providing online instruction. We are pleased to continue safely hosting our residents for the 2021-22 term. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT STEPS IS SCION TAKING? COVID-19 Task Force Our multi-disciplinary task force is focused on awareness about and prevention of coronavirus at our communities and among our team members. Our goal has been to ensure that our teams are informed and equipped to protect the health and safety of our communities and constituents. This Task Force has worked tirelessly to guide safety protocols and revisions to our business processes, responding quickly and thoroughly as the situation has evolved. Policy and protocol changes Cleanliness is always a priority at our communities, but we have taken extra measures to reduce the spread of germs. Our cleaning schedules are more frequent, and we have implemented hand-sanitizer and tissue stations in high-traffic areas. We also adopted various policy changes, including temporarily closing amenity spaces and providing virtual office hours when necessary, and rethinking the way we create resident event experiences and tours of our communities. If there is a concern of potential coronavirus exposure in community spaces, we notify our residents and staff. Additional details on our policy changes are provided below. Staying informed, monitoring and contact tracing We pride ourselves in being lifelong learners, which is why we’re committed to staying up to date on new information that is provided by national agencies, governmental resources and university officials. We’re also transparently sharing with our residents and staff whenever there is potential exposure to a reported positive case in any of our communities. When there’s a report of a positive case in a residence, we communicate with the residents of that apartment. We are also sharing with the entire community when there is a reported positive case of a person who has been in community amenity spaces within the prior ten days, always while maintaining confidentiality and protecting each person’s privacy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP? Get vaccinated This is the best thing you can do to protect yourself and those you care about, and to do your part in halting community spread of the virus. Follow public health guidelines Whether you’re a Scion team member, a resident, or one of our valued partners—we ask that you follow government and public-health guidelines, and continue to wear a face covering where required. If you feel sick, stay home and call a healthcare professional immediately to help you get well. We don’t tolerate discrimination of any kind At Scion, many of our team members live where we work. We are proud to be part of our diverse community and maintain a welcome and inclusive environment. Discrimination against residents, neighbors, or team members—whether because of country or region of origin, perceived illness or any other characteristic—will not be accepted. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT POLICY CHANGES ARE IN EFFECT? In-person and virtual services In an effort to increase social distancing and improve staff well-being, all Scion communities added a “virtual office” system to continue serving our communities through telephone calls, video chat, e-mail, direct message and text, in addition to in-person office visits (with face coverings). Essential employees have continued to staff our communities and to provide emergency maintenance, sanitation and other necessary services at all times. Adjusted business hours are implemented as needed, allowing our team members to address cleaning, package delivery and other resident needs. Precautions in shared amenity spaces We have posted recommended occupancy limits according to the size and configuration of each community space, some of which are adjusted to account for social distancing needs. Certain amenity spaces are available with advance reservations. Our communities are professionally staffed with on-site management and courtesy officers, who can help with ensuring safe usage. Additionally, we have implemented increased cleaning regimens, including electrostatic disinfecting systems to quickly clean high touch-point locations, such as offices, fitness rooms and business centers. Face coverings When the CDC lists a county in which a community is located at a “high” COVID risk level, our staff will wear face coverings (masks) in indoor public and amenity spaces and we will ask residents and visitors to do so as well. Our facilities staff will also wear face coverings when completing resident service requests at these locations or at any time when requested by a resident. Resident events We will continue to host resident events in accordance with the recommended gathering limits set by local authorities, and with appropriate precautions in place. In-person leasing and tours In-person tours and leasing activity have resumed at all communities, coupled with the option of a fully virtual touring, conferencing and leasing process. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stay informed Knowledge is the best way to stay safe.
