Permanent Mission Of Denmark To The UN In New York Denmark and the UN
Sustainable Development Denmark’s Engagement with UNFPA

DENMARK’S ENGAGEMENT WITH UNFPA

United Nations Population Fund or UNFPA is responsible for the implementation of
the programme of action from the 1994 International Conference on Population and
Development (ICPD) and its core mandate thus covers issues of Sexual and
Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The promotion of SRHR is a high priority
in the Danish Strategy for Development Corporation and Humanitarian Action (The
World 2030) and for this reason UNFPA is a significant partner in Denmark’s work
towards the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.

UNFPA is the world’s largest international source of funding for population and
reproductive health programmes. Denmark sees UNFPA as an important actor in
providing data and analyses that support and expand evidence based advocacy for
SRHR. Furthermore UNFPA plays an important role as a norm-setter in countries
where the issue of SRHR is controversial, which supplements Danish bilateral
efforts in some of these countries. On the humanitarian agenda, UNFPA also works
in accordance with Danish priorities preventing gender based violence and
providing sexual and reproductive health services in areas of conflict and
crisis.

Denmark is among the top donors to UNFPA. In addition Denmark sponsors the UNFPA
Innovation Fund with the purpose of funding innovative activities and approaches
in accordance with Danish priorities.
