Overview

...where our many protagonists wander in search of adventure or just living
their lives, usualy both.

A NIGHT AT THE QOOL QUASAR

My very first published story back in 2017. A first glimpse into the mythology
of the Raised Lands


A NEW SONG

Published in 2018. Einar the Ichomancer just wants to have a quiet day of
songwriting, but two armies crashing on his front door threaten to ruin his day.


AURY & KWINY

Published in 2020. Aury & Kwiny's first attempt at treasure-hunting turns-out to
be more dangerous than they bargained for.


THE LAST VAMPYRE WAR

My latest story, currently being serialized with new pages. Dhar the comic
creator is going to find that when you are a comic author already living on a
fantasy world, some of the fantastic stuff you write about won't just stay
confined within the page borders.

Cheerful and outgoing, she and her best friend Kwiny wander thru the Raised
Lands in search of adventure.

Shy but sharp, she and her best friend Aury wander thru the Raised Lands in
search of adventure.


EINAR



A young mage and student of Ichomancy (Magic summoned thru music). His quest for
knowledge brings him across mystic adventures.


DHAR



A comic book author from the Raised Lands, telling tales of bygone ages. Some of
those tales aren't so bygone and actually cause him a bit of trouble.


AIKHAN



Curator at the Museum Of All Sciences of Dhara City. His work should should be
boring and uneventful, but isn't.


K BAU



Owner and bartender of the Qool Quasar, a small quaint bar where nothing unsual
or mysterious happens ever (wink).

IMPROVED COMIC NAVIGATION BAR

Another item off the list:

On the feedback session I had it was pointed to me that the comic navigation bar
was not intuitive. For example I used arrows on the buttons that toggle the
cover and blog, but most webcomic readers are used to arrows indicating the next
or previous comic page, which was confounding some of my visitors. So I improved
the navigation labels to be more informative, and as a compromise I am going to
ad page-up/page-down buttons, even tho you can still use scroll to reach new
pages.

The design of the bar is still pretty bare, I know that, but that will have to
wait for next year when I have a new round of page fixes. For now I must finish
the basic inner workings.

FINAL FIXES, UPDATED.

Some fellow SpiderForest creators have given me feedback on the current site and
they pointed to me some oversights that I hadn't noticed. It shows the value of
having an outside perspective. The points they made are actually very important
and affect the site navigability, so I had to revise the Final List with two
more entries: Overscroll behaviour (when on mobile devices you scroll to the top
of the page and the browser reloads the site) and some details on the navigation
bar that seemed ok to me but are nonintuitive to other readers.

So the list got a bit longer, which is frustrating (because I really want to be
done with this round of development), but I already have scratched-off one of
the two.

Turns out that the overscroll behavior of mobile browsers clash with my idea of
lazy loading: I want to use the scroll-up action to load more previous pages but
that can accidentally trigger unwanted page reloads. I think that I solved it.
Basically, I made some simple code that can shut the overscroll behaviour on or
off when needed. It's still on prototype stage, but I can already mitigate the
unwanted reloads, and it will only get better as I work more on it.

FINAL ROUND OF FIXES OF 2023. ANOTHER ITEM DONE!

Another item scratched off the list: I have improved the Upwards-Scrolling
Lazy-Loader (henceforth USLL). Now, if there are preceding pages available, all
it takes is a simple scroll-up movement to load them.

Now moving on to the next item.

A MORE DETAILED REPORT ON WHAT'S LEFT

The site is looking more polished day by day, but there's still items on te
to-do list, however it's not long anymore, at least for this round. In fact
here's a list:

And I already have scratched one more item: The comic navigation buttons now
hide or show when scrolling up or down, which I think is more intuitive (but I
need you to tell me if that's true). I hope to be able to scratch one more item
off the list each day of this coming week, and then I'll close this round of
technical fixes and finally dedicate myself to do more comic pages. I know this
is still slow, but remember, I can only work on the site on my free time.

SMALL UPDATE. BETTER COMIC NAVIGATION CONTROLS

The comic navigation buttons now get hidden when scrolling down and show up
again when scrolling up. I think this is more intuitive. What do you think?

SO MUCH TO DO 😫

Making a webcomic is so much more than making a webcomic. Among this to-do pile
there's designing and creating the promotional pieces, the art banners and card
images for ads and collaborative sites. For example, I am a member of the
webcomic collective Spider Forest , and I am very overdue on updating my site
promotional materials which are composed of 7 pieces (and that's just ONE set of
materials that I need to do, there's others).

Well, I've just finished my Spider Forest set. Took me long enough because I had
so many things to do before. I feel a bit of relief every time I scratch an item
from the to-do list. Next on the list: Put back online my rss.

BIG UPDATE!

So, first you might have noticed I finally have updated the cover:

Next: At long last the navigation buttons between episodes are finally working
properly again.

...and a new page has been added to each episode, fully responsive and
translated (For now there's just one new page on each episode, the rest are
being made responsive and translated, and will be uploaded in the coming weeks).

And finally, the cast section has been updated:

As usual, there's still lots to do and bugs to fix, but this version is closer
than ever before to what I could call a finished fully working page. If you come

RESIZING PAGES TO MOBILE

Just a minor update. I am working now on adapting the pages I already have into
the smaller and narrower mobile format so I can make them responsive. It's been
a bit slow because, as usual, I have to contend with my regular life. Still
progress keeps being made. Inch by inch I get closer to the relaunch.
