MORE FROM THE MIT COMMUNITY
RESEARCH

A growing portion of Americans who are struggling to pay for their household
energy live in the South and Southwest, MIT Sloan researchers report. Their
study reveals a climate-driven shift away from heating needs and toward air
conditioning use.

MIT INNOVATORS

Joshua Reed-Diawuoh MBA ’20 is the founder and CEO of GRIA Food Company, which
partners with companies that ethically source and process food in West Africa to
support local food economies and help communities in the region more broadly.

RESEARCH

Engineers found a way to manage the bubbles that form on electrodes during many
industrial electrochemical processes, hampering the reactions. With new surface
designs, electrodes and electrolyzers could become more energy-efficient and use
fewer precious metals.

AROUND CAMPUS

The MIT Energy and Climate Club mobilizes future leaders to address global
climate issues. One of the largest MIT clubs, it sees itself as “the umbrella of
all things related to energy and climate on campus.”

ALUMNI IN ACTION

Victor Ambros ’75, PhD ’79 and Gary Ruvkun share this year’s Nobel Prize in
Physiology or Medicine. The pair, who worked together as postdocs at MIT, were
honored for their discovery of microRNA, a class of molecules critical for gene
regulation.
