BEITRAG VON SHRADHA SHARMA

Stand your ground Recently someone senior asked me, "Madam, you have been doing
this 'startup thing' for so long...So are you a Unicorn?"  A question like this
fills me with emotions ranging from "What did I do with my life" to "What is
wrong with the world?" To this senior official, though, I responded, "Sir, I am
not a unicorn, but I am baby corn." And then we both laughed. 😄 Over the past
few years, I have wondered about non-unicorn, non-soonicorn companies like mine.
Where do we stand? Where do we belong? Is there some word for us too? Where do
we stand? We may not be worth a billion dollars, but we stand, create value, and
don't give up. So many companies have managed to stay in the playground and not
hung up the boots come pandemic, funding winters, and the pressure of not being
in the 100x growth categories. Silently and often on the sidelines, they
continue to do what they envisioned. Yes, most of us don't get invited to the
top tables, are not part of the premium WhatsApp groups, don't make catchy
headlines, and meet the "you-haven't-scaled-fast-enough" barb every single day.
Despite the constant predictions of imminent collapse, we stand. Year after year
after year. To everyone who is in this category, I dedicate these lines from
Queen's "We Are The Champions" to you:   "I've paid my dues Time after time I've
done my sentence But committed no crime And bad mistakes— I've made a few I've
had my share of sand Kicked in my face But I've come through And we mean to go
on, and on, and on  We are the champions, my friends And we'll keep on fighting
till the end." And if you are or know entrepreneurs who are standing the ground
and creating phenomenal impact, we would love for them to have center stage this

struck a chord. a deep one :). Was just thinking the other day. 10 years and
still standing (sometimes seriously wonder how!!) - having seen the
demonetisation to the GST roll out to the China disruptions to the Pandemic. And
god knows what more in store ahead. Roasted corn - more like it.

#Business vs #Policy /#Regulations vs #technology : Eco-system had some
disconnects in understanding these concepts. Company has main and ancillary
object clause. The entire business is standing on this. To run the company,
there is a mandatory Policies, Regulations and Governance framed by the
regulatory authorities and internal policies are framed by the management needs
to be complied. To drive business, the technology is used to generate additional
revenue (Operational Excellence) but technology is the not the main object or
ancillary object clause of the business. There should be an issue which gives
birth to business idea, transforms in to business case and takes flight as a
project after complying all the ratios. It has to meet the 5 parameters of the
business. 1. Business idea 2. Management team 3. Business model. 4. Timing
(launching of the project) 5. Funding. Business has 3 levers like people,
process, technology, design in to the system which run with or out our presense
and complied with the policies, regulations and Governance. The idea should be
unique, frugal, scalable, repeatable, competitive in the market, there is a
demand which creates massive revenue /profitability or networth to the stake
holders.

With all due respect to the great work that you and your story are doing, Don't
you think YourStory and other media houses also have a role in 'people' thinking
that it's just unicorns and funded startups that are real businesses ?? Don't
you think bootstrapped businesses that are trying to generate profits need to be
celebrated more on the media for people to get the 'unicorns and funds' out of
their heads. NB:No offence to Unicorns or funded companies, they too are doing a
wonderful job. But to just to point out that the priorities need to be set right

I don't have a startup ...yet. But I do think about all struggles I could face
so that I can prepare myself for it. And such questions top the list, more so
when they are from our own family , friends and people we percieve to be our
supporters. The truth i have come to realise is in the entrepreneurial game, our
true supporters are peer entrepreneurs going through the same journey and who
know our journey. People may ask tonnes of questions and throw statements that
greatly pull down our confidence and a lot more. Often times, we assess our
success in terms of wrong metrics that the society lays for us. One way we could
deal with such situations from a self motivation point of view is to lay out
clear metrics to measure our goals. Our success need not be always measured by
financial excellence, popularity and fame. The truth is that most of us are
successful, maybe not in terms of those metrics but in terms of what we aimed to
achieve when we started. And we must remember that it is still work in progress
and will always be because that is what is entrepreneurship-a continuous
journey. By the way, such savage baby corn replies are what people who aren't
willing to understand the struggle deserve😉😉

Shradha Sharma, The way you interact with every founder you meet says a lot
about you. The value you have added to this ecosystem is immense, every New
Entrepreneur or Veteran Entrepreneur has been on par and given the same
larger-than-life image which everyone loves, Yourstory is like the OG platform
for Startups. In fact every startup guy feels that they have reached their first
milestone if they get an article on YS. The entire support you provided to
Schoolay Technologies Private Limited during the Vizag Fintech festival was
truly one of my best memories of YS. It’s platforms like YS & the stories that
you cover is what makes an entreprenuer feel a bit content about what he/she
does, even though we don’t make it to the big league.

Great post Shradha Sharma There are very few entrepreneurs who built unicorns
and even fewer who build an ecosystem that nurtures, inspires and helps build
many unicorns. You are one of those rare leaders doing the later, my friend

I really *know* Shradha! Shradha and I go back to 2010 when YourStory Media
was a small 5-6 people startup in the same shared office space that I had
leased while running my startup. [No concept of fancy co-working space then,
and both of our startups were bootstrapped] Seeing her work so close gave me
so many insights and also inspiration - Shradha, and hence Yourstory is the
epitome of startup support - Her eye really sparkles when she talks
passionately about startups (For some, it is their job to write about
startups - For her, it is her it is a burning passion and it is from her soul
and heart) For me, it doesn't matter if Yourstory is a Unicorn or not - What
matters is the number of startups and founders it has touched and hence
transformed. A feature in YS helps folks hire, raise funds (at least put you
in VC Line of Sight) etc Shradha, Keep going strong :) We all love you! Your
impact is too big to be measured in YS valuation alone. (No doubt you'll win
there as well) Your post made me reminisce our early days and how far you
   have come <3 #yourstory #love #startups

To everyone trying to build something meaningful, doesn't matter if you're a
"babycorn" or a "Unicorn", as long as you are adding value. To those who've
tried to build a business and, by all accounts and measures failed, don't
quit on yourself. Stand your ground!

but we stand, create value, and don't give up. So many companies have managed
to stay in the playground and not hung up the boots come pandemic, funding
winters, and the pressure of not being in the 100x growth categories.
Silently and often on the sidelines, they continue to do what they
envisioned. Yes, most of us don't get invited to the top tables, are not part
of the premium WhatsApp groups, don't make catchy headlines, and meet the
"you-haven't-scaled-fast-enough" barb every single day. Despite the constant
predictions of imminent collapse, we stand. Year after year after year. To
everyone who is in this category, I dedicate these lines from Queen's "We Are
The Champions" to you:   "I've paid my dues Time after time I've done my
sentence But committed no crime And bad mistakes— I've made a few I've had my
share of sand Kicked in my face But I've come through And we mean to go on,
and on, and on  We are the champions, my friends And we'll keep on fighting
till the end." And if you are or know entrepreneurs who are standing the
ground and creating phenomenal impact, we would love for them to have center
stage this TechSparks. please email at techsparks at yourstory dot com.

Entrepreneurship is way beyond fund raising and valuation. I guess it's
worthwhile to celebrate your success if you are making an impact in some way.

Stand your ground Recently someone senior asked me, "Madam, you have been
doing this 'startup thing' for so long...So are you a Unicorn?"  A question
like this fills me with emotions ranging from "What did I do with my life" to
"What is wrong with the world?" To this senior official, though, I responded,
"Sir, I am not a unicorn, but I am baby corn." And then we both laughed. 😄
Over the past few years, I have wondered about non-unicorn, non-soonicorn
companies like mine. Where do we stand? Where do we belong? Is there some
word for us too? Where do we stand? We may not be worth a billion dollars,

Shradha Sharma Sharma, Thanks for creating and nurturing YourStory Media - it
means a lot for startups like ours. Being unicorn is not the end goal and it
should not be but being right startup in building right organisation to solve
big problems for the consumers and ecosystem at large is what we should aim
and that’s exactly you are doing. Thank you for the insights and supporting
   the startups.

Everyone sharing feedback or advice when asked should remember this. Just
because someone is asking for feedback or advice does not mean they have to
follow it. Following the advice or acting on feedback is entirely the choice
of the one who is seeking feedback or advice. #feedback #startups #founders

The biggest dilemma for any startup founder is Persevere or Pivot? POV 1-As
the mythical Steve Jobs said, "You must stick to your vision, ignore the
naysayers, and believe that you are right, no matter what!". POV 2- As Eric
Ries said "If you hit a bump in the road, Pivot! That’s what great startups
do! Pivot, early and often!" Balancing these two is what makes you
successful. The answer to the above lies in market behavior and customer
data. Also, I believe having a co-founder helps you make more unbiased
decisions since founders have a tendency to develop affection towards the
   product than the problem.
