CEREMONIES

We are licensed to hold civil ceremonies in a number of beautiful locations,
both indoor and out…the choice is yours. If you are considering a church
wedding, St Margaret’s church is located just a stone’s throw from the venue and
can comfortably seat up to 100 guests

house in the past, carefully decorated in tasteful colours, this is the perfect
room to hold your ceremony, with panoramic views of the hills and a perfectly
positioned bay window which outlines our wedding couples perfectly, whilst they
sign the register

If you would like to make the most of our stunning grounds, our lawns
overlooking the moat are the perfect backdrop to say "I Do". Our wedding couples
walk along the front of the Hall to the rear of the grounds and enjoy country
views all around surrounded by wildlife. Secluded, quiet and the perfect private
area for our couples and their guests, this is a fantastic setting for our
couples to enjoy and make the best memories.

Our light and airy Orangery situated at the rear of the hall, overlooks the most
beautiful views of the North Wing gardens and rolling landscapes. It is the

Following your ceremony, you have the opportunity to design your dream wedding
reception.

From an informal BBQ and garden party to a traditional seated Wedding Breakfast,
our elegant marquee and picturesque grounds are at your service.

At Downham Hall, we are incredibly proud of our food.  All of our wedding
packages feature restaurant quality menus, full of exciting seasonal dishes to
suit every taste, all of which are complimented by an extensive wine list, craft
ales and signature cocktails.  Being a small team, we work closely with all of
our couples to design a bespoke catering package perfectly tailored just for
you.

Arrival and Departure Times


Your invite will inform you of arrival time but this is generally 30 minutes
prior to the ceremony. The bar will be open before and after the Ceremony.
The evening finishes at 11.45 last orders at the bar, carriages requested by
midnight.

Check in of rooms


If you are staying, check in is from 3pm but we will try our utmost to have a
room ready early. Please contact us directly prior to staying to check if this
is possible. Check out is 10am.

Getting ready


If you are part of the Bridal party, access to the Bridal Changing room is from
8am.

Cars


You are welcome to leave your car overnight. Please note this at the owners'
risk.

Confetti


We allow only naturally dried flower petals due to the wildlife here

Payments


Our bar accepts cash and card but not Amex.

Dogs


We do allow dogs but please check with the bridal couple.

Dietary requirements and allergies


Our bridal couple will inform us of dietary requirements prior to the wedding.
Please note if we ask to be informed on the day we will be unlikely to be able
to adapt.
Please note food choices are made prior to the Wedding Day and cannot be changed
on the day.

Special requests/ requirements


Baby Changing facilities can be found in the house.
Our venue is wheel chair accessible, please inform us if using a wheelchair.
Disabled toilets can be found in the main Hall.
High chairs are also available and we would be informed by the bridal couple
prior to the day if needed.

Moat


Please note children must be supervised at all times. We have a part moat which
is roped but kindly ask that children and adults are cautious.

I wanted to love it
We wanted to love this place ,particularly as it is a local establishment with a
recent commendation from the AA. The food was wonderful Our waitress was
wonderful , very attentive and hard working managing most of the covers alone.
But the place overall lacked finesse . Upon arrival we walked through a smoke
den , five ladies all having a cigarette at the main entrance. We were quickly
ushered to our table by front of house who then took herself off outside for a
vape, in front of the conservatory Eventually we received a drink but that was
after we were informed there was likely to be a delay with food today during to
an event on site. The rooms were very tired in part , and nowhere to have a pre
dinner drink , no post dinner coffee etc. There was a wedding or similar on site
that seemed to have taken over all areas. Perhaps we experienced it on the wrong
day which is unfortunate, we were expecting something similar to Babbington ,
the Pig , Talboth etc but unfortunately not.

Just lovely....
In Essex due to family matters, we wanted to stay overnight in something other
than the usual chains so chose Downham Hall. What a good choice that was - it is
a lovely place, and the wow factor of the interior is matched by the exterior
setting. Our room was comfortable, light, and airy with a good view onto fields,
and our evening meal was very good. The hotel staff are a delightful crew and
everyone was helpful, friendly (no one was too rushed to chat!) and highly
efficient. This last point was proved beyond doubt when an totally unexpected
and unwanted plumbing issue in our room arose before breakfast - this is when
any business proves its worth by doing the right thing when a major snag arises,
and Downham Hall did just that! Action was swift and apologies were made
including a complimentary breakfast. We really appreciated their concern and
good practice. Thanks to all at DH - hope to see you again!

We held our wedding ceremony & reception at Downham Hall at the end of June and
the team there really helped to make the day special for us! The venue itself is
stunning and has the loveliest of views all around. The food was amazing and we
had so many compliments from guests - we’ve had people still mentioning the
quality of the food weeks later! Debra, Christina, Ben, Andy & the rest of the
team really were wonderful in the lead up to & on the day. We’re so grateful for
all of their help! We had multiple guests describe it as the ‘perfect wedding
venue’ and we couldn’t agree more. Thank you for helping to make our wedding day

Stunning hotel set in the Essex countryside. Room, food, service were all
exceptional. Outdoors and Orangery were also of a high standard for breakfast
and pre and after dinner drinks. The service from everyone from the moment we
arrived to departure could not be faulted. In fact they went above and beyond.

Perfect for Afternoon tea and a catch up with friends.
We went for afternoon tea and had a very nice table with a nice view. The
service was good and the tea was just as you would expect. The sandwiches were
tasty and the scones were very nice. I’m not a fan of the little cakes at all
but I think it was just me so don’t be put off by that. We hope to go back for
Sunday lunch very soon.
