EARTH SCIENCE PROJECTS DIVISION

Enabling Earth science mission success to understand, protect, and preserve our
home for ourselves and future generations.

 * About ESPD
 * Our Missions
 * Science & Applications

WHAT IS ESPD?

The Earth Science Projects Division (ESPD) at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC)

Providing infrastructure and personnel for engineering support, mission
assurance, facilities, resources, business/finance, personnel, information
technology, security, documentation, and configuration management for two NASA
Headquarters programs.

View Organization and Overview of ESPD
Behold one of the more stunningly detailed images of the Earth yet created. This
Blue Marble Earth montage, created from photographs taken by the VIIRS
instrument on board the Suomi NPP satellite, shows many stunning details of our
home planet.
NASA

OUR MISSIONS

ESPD integrates the best people and processes to ensure successful execution and
implementation of our missions.

We provide continuous oversight and independent assessments for our directed
ESMPO-G and RPP missions, enabling detailed understanding of our projects. We
manage Earth science data, which is provided at no cost to worldwide users, and
maintain and expand the historical Earth science data record.

On Monday, Sept. 27, 2021, at 2:12 ET a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V
rocket with the Landsat 9 satellite is slated to lift off on a mission to
observe Earth.
NASA

SCIENCE & APPLICATIONS

The Earth system, like the human body, comprises diverse components that
interact in complex ways, like our oceans, land, air, and precipitation.

Our missions observe the fundamental components that enable scientists to study
the interactions between our planetʼs complex systems from space.

On a planetary scale, we can only answer these questions with the vantage point
of space, and with data records that are calibrated and validated, consistent,
and continuous over decadal time scales.
