Public Information Officer: Tactics for Effectively Managing the Media Tuesday, January 10, 2023 12 PM - 2 PM Directions: 12 PM to 2 PM EST / 9 AM to 11 AM PST, ZOOM Download Flyer Homefront Protective Group, Law Enforcement Training Presents: Public Information Officer Tactics for Effectively Managing the Media It has never been more important, timely, and necessary for law enforcement agencies to train and maintain an effective Public Information Officer. One of the reasons an effective Public Information Officer is needed is the overwhelming way the media tries to create controversy at the cost to law enforcement. Additionally, law enforcement agencies need to be represented by their most articulate, intelligent and informed Public Information Officers who can confidently manage the media, perform well during tough interviews, and provide adequate information while avoiding the disclosure of intelligence and sensitive details. In the past few years, numerous Sheriffs, Chiefs of Police, and untrained PIOs have been manipulated by savvy, and exploitive, reporters. These highly televised interviews caused serious damage to the agency’s credibility, respect, community perception and professional reputation. Some disclosed way too much sensitive information and went so far as to inform criminals of insight into confidential police operations and investigations. These mistakes were made by untrained law enforcement executives and Public Information Officers. This course will instruct PIOs, Police Media Liaisons, and Law Enforcement Supervisors and Executives how to effectively manage the media, media interviews and press conferences to the benefit of the agency’s public perception while building trust and transparency with the community. COURSE TOPICS · The Importance of an Effective PIO – More Important Today Than Yesterday! · Media Tactics for Manipulating Law Enforcement Spokespersons · Press Conferences, Interviews and Press Releases · Techniques of Effective Public Information Officers · Preparing for Media Interviews and Press Conferences · Polishing the Image of the Agency – The Value and Necessity · Defending the Good Work of the Agency · Being Transparent During Incidents of Misconduct or Mistakes DATE: January 10, 2023 TIME: 12PM to 2PM Eastern Time/9 AM to 11 AM Pacific Time LOCATION: Zoom Virtual Classroom TUITION: $95 (Only Credit Card Payments are accepted to register for this course) REGISTRATION LINK: https://homefrontprotect.com/PIO-011023 INSTRUCTORS: Chief James Partee and Vince Dementri, former TV Anchor, Reporter and TV Journalist, CBS News.
