My name is Ioana Olteanu. I am a Registered Psychotherapist and a Certified
Clinical Trauma Specialist. I am passionate about helping individuals reconnect
with their authentic selves, as this is where true healing takes place. Click

SAFETY AND STABILITY

When discussing upsetting events, we can experience intense physiological
arousal. In that moment, our body is reliving a trauma that we may or may not be
conscious of. Our brain is telling us: we are not safe and our body gets ready
to fight the danger or flee. 


This heightened state of arousal can be overwhelming and frightening for
clients. As a psychotherapist, I present clients with a number of coping and
relaxation strategies to utilize in and outside of therapy. I also provide EMDR
therapy for clients finding themselves unable to speak about the traumatic
event(s) or who prefer not to speak about them. When we keep our bodies calm, we
reassure ourselves that we are safe. Physiological arousal decreases
significantly and we are able to come back to the present.
