MUSEUM SHADOWS

I often visit art museums with a camera in hand for taking photographs of
artwork that I might wish to recall for future reference. On one particular
visit to a dimly lit exhibition space I began to notice the light and shadows
reflecting on the polished floor and became as interested in the abstract
patterns created by the light and shadows as in the artwork on the walls. They
were wonderful and playful discoveries for me and something to continue to
search for. Thus began this series of photographs taken at subsequent visits to
many other museums with shadows and light in mind.

PATTERNS

When walking through grassy fields and many other locations I often become
interested in the small details of my surroundings and will take close up
photographs for recollection. While these details are of interest to me, most of
the photographs are not of any particular quality and would be of little
interest to any other viewer. My first notion of creating patterns from such
photographs started after photographing beautiful rusting surfaces of large
culverts recently excavated from a country bridge construction sight. By
creating geometric patterns from these surface details the images became alive
and engaging. I have continued to explore this patterning process working with
photographs of field grasses and plants, found objects, snow, water, the sky,
etc. It is a way for looking a little deeper at things perhaps overlooked
otherwise.

WATERCOLORS

DREAMS ARE BUILT HERE

The photographs in this collection were taken throughout the state of Indiana
and other mid-west locations. The title comes from a poster advertising the
Missouri state lottery located above the cash register of a small town bar and
restaurant.
