More ABOUT ACCREDITATION × How Does A Lab Get Accredited? This is a rigorous 4-step process that will take up to 1 year to complete: ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW: Application completed and accepted. TECHNICAL REVIEW: Site assessor then reviews technical aspects. This is done annually. SITE VISIT: Site assessor physically visits the laboratory, 2-4 days. FINAL REVIEW: Application goes to a Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) for final review. This panel is comprised of 12-22 experts who advise the Analytical Accreditation Board (AAB). After addressing any concerns of the site assessor or TAP, the laboratory will then go to the AAB to determine acceptance. Labs receiving approval are accredited for a 2-year period, after which they must apply for re-accreditation. What Are The Accreditation Criteria? STAFF: The labs workforce plays a key role in obtaining accreditation. X-zam® must employ a sufficient number of trained technical personnel to complete the workload. Includes experienced managerial/technical/QA staff. QUALITY: Accreditation requires good QA and QC programs be in place for all laboratory operations. Facilities and equipment are tightly scrutinized to assure adequacy for applications. Participate in a proficiency-testing program. PROCEDURES: Naturally, a big part of any lab operation is simply having the right procedures in place. Accreditation mandates record maintenance and documentation procedures as well as approved laboratory methods and standard operating procedures (SOP's).
