FIRST FREDMANS TRAINING SESSION ON NUCLEAR FUEL

FREDMANS project (https://enen.eu/index.php/portfolio/fredmans-project/ ) aims
to increase safety and efficiency in both nuclear power production and the
recycling of spent fuel. The research-development activities it addresses are
complemented by an education and training programme in the field of nuclear
fuels.

Young scientists with relevant theoretical and, above all, practical knowledge
will be trained in the E&T programme answering the needs for skills and
abilities in the field of nuclear fuels, combining theoretical courses with
hands-on training sessions, thus ensuring the transfer of valuable experience
gained by the specialists with outstanding competencies in this field.

The first training session dedicates its courses/lectures and hands-on training
to:

 * Fuel characteristics and performances requested for an LFR reactor
 * Basics of nuclear fuel fabrication and characterisation

Expected audience:

This course is mainly addressed to:  Students, Master students, PhD students,
young researchers.

Due to the hands-on activities and existing availabilities, the audience is
limited to 12 trainees.

The course is organized by the A-CINCH consortium, and it consists of 2 parts:

 2. Hands-on training that will take place at CHALMERS, Institute of Technology

All teaching will be in English.

Description:

The course provides fundamental theoretical knowledge of principles and concepts
on Plutonium and Actinide chemistry. It consists of a theoretical part and
on-site face-to-face teaching.

The theoretical knowledge is complemented by practical hands-on training in the
selected radioanalytical methods.

The practical hands-on component will take place in active laboratories at the
Department of Nuclear Chemistry of Chalmers University of Technology in
Gothenburg.

Target group:

This dedicated training course has been designed for individuals with at least
Masters’ level Chemistry background, who need to extend their skills and
knowledge of nuclear and radiochemistry to the field of application of
radionuclides and ionising radiation in analytical chemistry.

The national ID/passport of the applicants is required. Iranian and North Korean
citizens, regardless of where they study, are not allowed to enter the course as
per Swedish law.

Up to 12 candidates are accepted.

Each participant will receive their personal dosimeter and if they do need to
bring their own dosimeters as required by their employer, they will wear 2
simultaneously.

The students will have to take a short test on-line, prior to arriving to
Sweden, in order to be allowed to enter the facilities.

21ST ESARDA COURSE ON NUCLEAR SAFEGUARDS AND NON PROLIFERATION

The JRC – Joint Research Centre of the European Commission Announces the 21st
ESARDA COURSE on Nuclear Safeguards and Non-Proliferation to be held in spring
2023.

Short Description: This 1-week course addresses the topics of Nuclear Safeguards
and Non Proliferation which is accounted as both an ESARDA and SATE Project
course based (3 ECTS can be recognized).

The SaTE project is a EC DG INTPA (former DG DEVCO) funded project under
contract no. INSC/2018/401-261 and implemented by ENEN

Target Audience: Masters degree students, in particular nuclear engineering
students, but also to young professionals and International Relations / law
students.

DESCRIPTION

The course material, consisting of a syllabus, a complete  set of presentations
and literature, will be provided to the participants. It is recommended to the
students to prepare themselves beforehand using the material that will be
available.

On a voluntary basis, participants  are  encouraged  to  take  an exam, which
includes two parts. The first part is an on-line multiple-choice questionnaire,
which will take place during the week course. The second part consists in
writing an essay on a nuclear safeguards or non-proliferation topic. Up to two
best essays can be selected for being published in the ESARDA Connector journal 
or  for  being  presented in a poster session at the next ESARDA Symposium.
Successful students can include this course in their academic curriculum as it
is recognised by BNEN/ENEN for 3 ECTS points.

Upon acceptance of your file by the course organizer committee, you will be
notified for enrolment in the course and to proceed with the final
registration. There is no course fee.

HANDS-ON TRAINING ON ANALYSIS OF ALPHA, BETA AND GAMMA EMITTERS BY RADIOCHEMICAL
SPECTROSCOPIC TECHNIQUES

Ljubljana, 13-17 June 2022

The course is organized by the A-CINCH Consortium and it consists of 2 parts
(see and sign up at https://moodle.cinch-project.eu/).

The first part is delivered as distance learning course and will take place at
moodle.cinch-project.eu. It will include an introduction to radiochemical
spectroscopic analysis of alpha, beta and gamma emitters with theoretical
considerations. In addition to that, gamma spectroscopy of environmental samples
will be covered, as well as determination of uranium by alpha-particle
spectrometry and determination of Po-210 by alpha-particle spectrometry and
Pb-210 by beta counting. Participants have to successfully finish this course
before entering the on-site course.

The second part will include practical hands-on training and will take place at
the Jožef Stefan Institute, Department of Environmental Sciences. It will
include hands-on experience in determining uranium in calcite samples, Po-210,
Pb-210 in fish samples and Cs-137 in water.

All teaching will be in English.

The ELSE project aims to develop a new research-based approach for education in
the domain of leadership for safety.

Participants will strengthen their understanding of leadership for safety
problematics and develop the ability to critically and knowledgeably practice
their leadership skills in nuclear and radiological working environments.
Based on a multidisciplinary approach drawing on most recent academic research
results, and including the development of a personal project supervised by a
senior expert, this course is designed to complement the existing training
curricula currently provided by the nuclear sector organizations, including
IAEA.

Candidates are expected to attend both sessions: 5-16 Sept 2022 in Nice, France
and 5-6 June 2023 hybrid mode

The aim of this course is to present a general overview of the most relevant
aspects involved in the design, synthesis, characterization and preclinical
evaluation of radioactive compounds with potential interest as
radiopharmaceuticals, namely in a theranostic context.

At the same time, the participants will obtain practical skills on the
manipulation of medical radionuclides, synthesis and in vitro evaluation of
radiopharmaceuticals and their evaluation in different cellular and animal
models.

The course will comprise a theoretical part and a practical hands-on training
that will run in laboratories licensed for the manipulation of medical
radionuclides and for studies with human cell lines and animal models.
