I really am not in the habit of writing negative reviews but I feel I must let
people know how bad the Stereo experience is. We often travel to venues in
different parts of the world as fans of house music and have never experienced
anything like it. First off, upon entering and going to the bar we were told
they dont sell alcohol. Okay, not a big deal, we decided to leave and go for a
drink elsewhere. When leaving we were told we could not come back once we left.
After explaining that we were not made aware when buying tickets online or upon
entering that this venue did not sell alcohol, we were told "maybe" after 3am we
could come back. We wanted to see the DJ (and to be fair, the soundsystem was
great) so we decided to go back and were eventually let in after being barked at
by the bouncers yet again as there was a fire inside and by lining up behind
others at the door we would somehow block the fire brigade. No idea why standing
in line behind everyone else considering we had no idea what was going on made
us so bad but yeah, that was the vibe - eventually everyone was let in again.
After being offered drugs many times in the toilets by the same person that had
setup shop at the sinks, I was trying to contact friends who were out dancing to
say we were leaving when my phone was slapped down by a bouncer who said 'Can
you not read?' and pointed to a sign warning 'No photos or videos'. I said to
the other bouncers when leaving that I felt this place did not welcome people
that were there for music and did not want to take drugs. I was told 'welcome to
a big city' and 'get out before we put you out'.
Like I said, we travel around alot following electronic music and have never
been in a place with such a terrible atmosphere and complete lack of respect for
people. We dont expect any special service anywhere and of course understand
that drugs are part of the scene but to be made feel like we were so unwelcome
for using a phone inside and trying to buy a drink when open drug dealing was
being shoved in your face every time you used the frankly disgusting toilets was
just too much. Arrogance and a threatening manner by every bouncer there seems
to be the "go to" mode. Electronic music has come a long way and making people
feel excluded is certainly not where we are at now.
This place is run like a cheesy 90s discobar where the doormen are only there to
run and take a percentage of the products being sold in the toilets.
Wouldnt go here again if I was paid. Terrible vibes and bizarre behaviour. I
have been involved and worked in the scene since the 90s and this place is the
worst venue I have ever been in. Only positives were a good soundsystem and
really friendly people working at the coat drop.

Terrible music, mid atmosphere, $50 a person and no drinks are included, you are
better off going anywhere else. Extremely rude bouncers and staff as well.

The best after hour club

Best after hour club experience with my friends and I. The music, sounds and the
lighting are superb. They don't make $ from selling the booze because they only
offer the bottle water to obey the laws. So don't complain about paying the
premium for the bottle water. You have the option to drink the tab water from
the restroom sink if you are on budget.

The last of the big 3........

Only the 3 big was the deal..... Starting with the Sona who was the #1 after
hours club hands down, perfectly located in the downtown of Montreal but
unfortunately has died in 2004, in the 2n place the Red Lite who was located in
Laval (northern suburb) the location of the place was not very appealing because
when you think after hours club you think downtown of a city not suburb or in
the country , anyways their biggest mistake they make is moving in a brand new
building still in Laval about roughly 10 minutes from their previous location to
finally died in 2013 ish because the city of Laval is not allowing after hours
club between 3am to 8am. And finally in the 3rd spot we have the Stereo , who is
still running strong and their location is just perfect right at the beginning
of the gay village if you coming from the west of the city of Montreal , the
problem with the Stereo is the since 2017 and counting this is the poor content
as example Chus Ceballos, David Morales, Atroxx & Victor Calderone and repeat
lol !!! and another thing their website who is super not accurate at all , when
you go there its look like ghost area , you don't know who's on the scene and if
they're open or not.

We all know this type of culture (Trance/Progressive/Techno) is not popular at
all in the western hemisphere , i guess the real winner of the big 3 is the Sona
(Where i spent very quality time for the record) because they shut down the
place at the right time, on the top of his glory !!!!.

Absolutely horrible experience.

Was trying to enjoy a late night out with friends. We went to Club Unity which
was an absolutely amazing time and after it closed we tried heading to Stereo.
The cover was a ridiculous price and the bouncers/host were beyond rude. I have
never had such a bad experience with a night club before. We will never try to
go back again. I hope you think twice before heading back to such a horrible
place. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and your
time by either checking out another bar or going home.

If You Only Have Time for One Club, This Is It

Stereo is an afterhours gem attracting top tier international DJs--more than a
few have claimed this is their favorite club to spin in across North America.
Think brilliant sound system and a friendly dance floor devoid of drunken antics
and macho posturing (no booze sold on location helps) that seems to bring out
the best in people, inspiring a certain elegance in its clientele, refreshingly
respectful and cultured behavior for the club scene. If you love techno, tech
house, progressive house, the works, this is your tribe. Staff is adamant about
its no photos policy. What happens at Stereo stays at Stereo.

Great Club (for techno lovers)

I went with a big group of friends (for an after hours session) and all but me
and one left after about an hr because they didn't sell alcohol and because it
wasn't their vibe. But if you're a big fan of techno clubs, this is by far one
of the best one's around. Amazing open and clean space, next level light show,
and state of the art sound system. The DJ playing when I went was insane!! Also,
loved the open atmosphere, very LGBTQ friendly. Everyone was there to dance,
enjoy the music, and have a good time.

The best club in Montreal by far

Stereo is by far the best club (be it after hours or normal hours) that you
could expect from Montreal. The DJs that are hired to perform here are all
amazing, with some of the best techno music one could expect, and the clientele
is especially inviting: so much so that I probably spend half my time in the
outdoor area just talking to people. The lighting and sound are very
sophisticated, with the sound system being unparalleled as far as my experiences
with techno clubs go (I haven’t been to Berlin, so correct me if I’m wrong ^^).
Finally, as long as you’re not being disrespectful (I’d say this for any club
quite frankly), the staff is super chill and friendly. One thing that I should
add is to not bring chewing gum to the club: they will pat you down at the
entrance and will throw it away if they find some on you. Don’t blame them: the
dance floor is made of high quality wood that is specifically tailored to
enhance the dancing experience, which means it’s very expensive, and they don’t
want gum to drain the material. If this hasn’t convinced you to come for at
least a night, I don’t know what will ^^
