Skellingthorpe Community Centre

ABOUT

Skelllingthorpe Community Centre was opened in 1973 to serve the needs of groups
and individuals from within our village and surrounding community. Its two halls
and modern kitchen provide ideal accommodation for all private and organised
events.

The Community Centre is a focal point in the village and frequently in use
during the daytime and evenings on weekdays. There is a resident nursery during
term times. There are also numerous other regular users of the Community Centre,
some of whom are detailed on this site. Weekends are typically booked for
special occasions, such as weddings, special birthday parties and various fetes,
fairs and music events.

Please see our Hire Charges section for general information on facilities,
prices and availability. For more specific enquiries, please contact
the Bookings Secretary by calling 01522 683061 or messaging us via our Facebook
page:  https://www.facebook.com/Skellingthorpe-Community-Centre-187018051345645/?ref=bookmarks

Skellingthorpe Community Centre is run as a Charity by a Management Committee of
Trustees and user group representatives who are all volunteers.  We are the
latest in a long line of  village people who have volunteered their time and
skills over many decades in order to keep the Centre running (see more by
clicking on: ‘Archive’ section).  If you would like to join us in caring for
this precious village asset, please get in touch with the Chair via
roy.bennett@ntlworld.com.

We hold monthly Committee meetings at the Centre for anyone interested in
finding out what we do.  Please contact the Chair for information.

Although owned by the Parish, Skellingthorpe Community Centre has been run for
many decades without the day-to-day input of the Parish Council, and its running
costs are not met by Council tax.  To pay the bills, the Centre relies on its
hire income, and any profits made through events such as the popular Film
Nights.  In recent years we have had success in obtaining grants and funding,
some of it substantial, from the likes of Aviva, Biffa, the National Lottery
and, most recently, the Lincolnshire Cooperative.

In 2018, thanks to the very generous help of Biffa, and a contribution from
the Parish Council, the Community Centre was able to fund a new roof.  With
£50,000 from BIFFA‘s grant and an additional £5,100 kindly provided by the
Parish Council, the Committee was able to replace the elderly and leaking flat
roof with a proper tiled/pitched roof for the entire building. The following
video, featuring key members of the Committee who worked on the grant bid, gives
you a chance to have a look around our lovely Centre inside and
out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV59-wqn9LE&feature=youtu.be

We have also been lucky enough to benefit from local donations, including a
generous amount from an Open Gardens fund-raiser at Skellingthorpe Old Hall in
2019.

The Committee is constantly working to ensure facilities are maintained to a
high standard.  We use local tradespeople where possible. Summer 2019 saw the
installation of air conditioning, sourced from a village business, Browns
Refrigeration Services. Further enhancements, such as switching to LED lights,
have been completed recently and we now have our sights set on upgrading and
updating other fixtures and fittings, as sustainably as possible.
