calorie tracking begins at midnight and incorporates the calories burnt while
sleeping-which is obviously missed by the Apple Watch that has to charge
overnight. The latest Apple Watch versions also do this.įitbit estimates the
number of calories burned based on your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate),
calculated using your height, weight, age, and gender. The likes of the Versa
and Sense recognize when you’re running and automatically enter Run Mode
-starting the GPS or connected GPS-and even automatically pause when you do. If
you set your calorie-burn target high on the Apple Watch you’ll need to walk the
equivalent of 20,000 Fitbit steps. (Technical bit: Resting Metabolic Rate is not
the same as Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which excludes the calories burned
digesting food.) Your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the number of calories
that your body burns while you are at complete rest (with muscles relaxed, such
as asleep) to keep itself alive (sustain vital organs such as your heart, brain,
nervous system, lungs, kidneys, liver, muscles, and skin) and digest food.
Fitbit allows for “resting calories” too. The Move ring is interested in Active,
not Resting calories, which is a little more rigorous than Fitbit’s approach.
Unlike Fitbit, Apple splits apart “resting calories” (calories you burn just by
existing) and “active calories” (burnt through more vigorous activity). As you
continue to wear your Apple Watch it will better learn your habits, average
heart rate ranges, and normal activity levels, helping to make calorie counts
more accurate. The Apple Watch uses motion and heart rate data to determine
calorie count, which then dictates the Move metric of the Activity app. watchOS
9 features a raft of new features and improvements, including car crash

automatically switches between any sequence of swimming, biking, and running
Race Route, which lets you compete against your best time running or biking a

measurement, as the LED sensors have closer contact with the wrist. The Apple
Watch Series 8 comes with watchOS 9 pre-installed. The Watch’s built-in
heart-rate monitor does support external heart-rate monitors too.Īpple has
improved the Heart Rate app, which now measures you r resting heart rate and
your recovery heart rate, and can give you notifications if anything seems awry.
However, it does record your heart rate continuously when the Workout app is
turned on, so you get constant feedback during training sessions. On the other
hand (or should I say wrist?) the Apple Watch checks your heart rate only every
ten minutes during the day.

It’s a bit frustrating to want to lock the handle and not have it completely
held in place. On our razor, however, even with the lock enabled, the head would
still pivot some - about a quarter of the way it goes when unlocked. Simply
slide it up to lock the handle in place, making it a typical static handle. It
doesn’t move as easy as you’ll find with a pivoting razor cartridge (which this
razor also has).ĭon’t want the head to pivot? On the underside of the handle is
a lock. It takes some decent effort to push the head back. Schick calls this
“Shock Absorber Technology.” The idea is that as pressure is applied, this
pivoting head will keep the razor firm on your face, but also provide some give
to go over curves like the chin and jaw. This large area moves back an estimated
20-30 degrees. Here you’ll find the pivoting head on the handle. Wet or dry,
this handle is not slipping out of your hands.īut move up to the head of the
handle and you can see that there is something unique about this razor. The
weight is decent and the grip - despite not being covered in deep treads - is
very good. A mix of chrome-colored metal, overlaid with generous rubber grip
(the entire underside is completely covered in rubber), it looks like an average
razor. Take a look at the handle of the Hydro 5 Sense and you might not notice
anything too different, until you get to the top of it.įor the most part the
handle looks fairly generic. The Hydro 5 Sense has a lot of engineering that
goes into both the handle and the cartridge, making it one of the most unique
razors we reviewed. For our test, we selected the Hydro 5 Sense “Energize” which
comes with lubrication with menthol supposed to “wake up tired-looking skin.”
Razor Design Inside the package came the handle, as well as two Hydro 5
cartridges. That means all the packaging is recyclable and easy to open. We
bought our test razor on Amazon, where it came in retail packaging, including a
cardboard box with plastic casing. But while the Schick Hydro 5 does provide a
good shave, some of the features actually took away from the experience for us.
It’s all designed to give you a better shave. Like other razors that we consider
to be in its class (including Gillette’s Fusion5 ProGlide) there are a ton of
features and technology packed into a small package. This double action provides
more movement compared to what you’ll find in other razors, all designed to give
you a closer shave that takes better care around the curves of your face. What
makes the Hydro 5 difference is that the handle also has a pivoting point
(Schick calls it “Shock Absorb Technology”). But the most unique feature is the
pivoting handle.Īll refillable razors will have a head that pivots back and
forth. Coming in several different styles of cartridge (including Hydrate,
Sensitive, and Energize), all the razors and handles in the lineup share several
common characteristics.Īlong with five blades, the cartridges all have a wide
lubrication strip to provide a smoother shave, as well as microfins at the base

I started with fat quarters of each of the 4 prints and just a 2.5 inch strip of
the solid. It’s not a complicated block at all, would you like to try to it? You
set it up and never have to worry again.Remember yesterday when I had that
random mug rug in the picture with the Pillows? Well, today I’m going to
re-share the tutorial on making the block! Back in July at the Fabric Shop I was
working in, we had a Christmas in July celebration and everyone made a block! I
decided to make a Christmas Tree block! So in case you missed it…. Carbonite,

CHESSY FRIES AND TATER TOTS

Whatever you choose to put on your totchos, I think you’ll find they’re a fun
way to use leftover barbecued meat and a welcome change to traditional nachos.
You can load-up your totchos with every topping under the sun, or keep it simple
like I’ve done here with just tots, chopped brisket, cheddar cheese, barbecue
sauce, and some green onions for color. Some sort of melty cheese is also a
requirement, either shredded cheese or a cheese sauce or ideally both for
maximum cheesy goodness. Secondly, you can sprinkle the hot tater. Brisket, pork
butt, and chicken are the obvious choices here, just make sure to chop the meat
finely and spread it around generously so you get meat and tot in every bite.
Melt 4 oz of velveeta cheese with cup of milk on the stove top or in the
microwave. Just swap out tortilla chips for tater tots in your favorite nachos,
making sure to add plenty of barbecued meat and barbecue sauce on top. So…this
isn’t really a recipe as much as it’s a suggested substitute ingredient. The one
thing I will suggest is that if you have a home deep fryer or you’re willing to
break-out a dutch oven and a few quarts of vegetable oil, now is the time to do
so because there’s no better tot than a deep fried tater tot! Sprinkle 1
tablespoon mozzarella cheese over tots and drizzle with 2 teaspoons Frank's
RedHot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce. Spread 1/4 cup of hot Alfredo sauce across
a small service dish.

Spread cream of mushroom soup and cheddar cheese soup on top. They’ll work just
fine in this application, as will any of the other varieties including Mini
Tater Tots, Crispy Crowns, Extra Crispy Tater Tots, or Onion Tater Tots. For
each serving, fry 9 tots until golden brown. Spread uncooked ground beef on the
bottom of a 9x13 casserole dish. They’re appearing on more restaurant menus in
addition to (or as a replacement for) french fries, gourmet versions are showing
up in some restaurants, and there are even DIY tater tot recipes on food
television programs like Cook’s Country on PBS.Īs for me, I can’t imagine going
to all the trouble to make my own tater tots from scratch when the frozen ones
from Ore-Ida that we all know and love are pretty darned good, especially when
baked nice and crispy. Well, maybe I shouldn’t say “childhood favorite” because
at the time writing in early 2018, tater tots seem to be increasing in
popularity everywhere. Helpful Kitchen Tools Here are some kitchen tools to help

They recently added a slightly lower level language called LiveCodeBuilder (LCB)
which allows for easier development of add-on Libraries extensions and GUI
widgets and features a Foreign Function Interface for hooking into code
libraries from other languages and OS APIs. LiveCodeScript (LCS) is extremely
similar to HyperTalk but greatly expanded. It's app engine runs on MacOS,
Windows, Linux, Android, iOS, and web HTML5. It's IDE runs on MacOS, Windows and
Linux. It's what I imagine HyperCard 9 if Apple had to kept developing it and
made it OpenSource.

Lastly, and I'm not affiliated with Solutions Etc., just mentioning this, it is
20% off until May 31. Or, if you want a development environment that is miles
easier than Xcode and you want to focus on macOS development, SuperCard might be
your ticket. However, for anyone still keeping a Hypercard application or stack
alive (via old hardware or emulation), SuperCard offers a way forward- at least

becoming more important than desktop development, it's strange for a development

development. It's a modern successor to Hypercard like Livecode is. SuperCard is
a bit of an odd duck these days.
