DRIVING IN AUSTRALIA FOR INTERNATIONAL VISITORS

Bona fide tourists with a valid Austrian driver\'s licence for the same class of
vehicle can drive in Australia. You should carry your licence with you at all
times when driving. In some states you can drive indefinitely while on
tourist/visitor visa status, others have a time limit so you should check with
the local road transport authority.

If your national driving licence is not in English, you need a certified English
translation or the International Driver\'s Permit.

If you have been granted Permanent Residency for Australia, normally you would
be able to drive for three months only on your overseas licence. Regulations
vary from state to state. You should contact the local road transport authority
on arrival for details on obtaining a local licence.

TOURIST REFUND SCHEME

The Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) enables you to claim a refund, subject to
certain conditions, of the goods and services tax (GST) and wine equalisation
tax (WET) that you pay on goods you buy in Australia, provided that you take
them out of Australia at the end of your visit.

NEW ARRIVALS

A gateway to information ranging from citizenship, health, settlement help for
migrants and working conditions, to buying a home in Australia.

BIOSECURITY

People, animals, goods, aircraft and vessels arriving in Australia are subject
to biosecurity conditions set by the Australian Government Department of
Agriculture and Water Resources.

Biosecurity conditions (previously referred to as quarantine), are designed to
protect against the introduction of foreign pests and diseases that could be
harmful to our environment and agricultural industries. For more information on
bringing or mailing items to Australia, exporting goods to Australia, and
bringing a cat, dog or other pet animal to Australia, please refer to the
website of the Australian Embassy to Belgium, Luxembourg and Mission to the
European Union and NATO.

In case of further questions, please contact the Embassy's Consular Office.
