TROPICAL STORM MILTON FORMS IN GULF, COULD INTENSIFY AS A HURRICANE AND THREATEN
FLORIDA

 * Updated 59 mins ago
 *

Forecasters say Tropical Storm Milton has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. It is
220 miles north-northeast of Veracruz, Mexico. The U.S. National Hurricane
Center said Saturday that it could strengthen into a hurricane and bring the
risk of life-threatening impacts to portions of Florida’s west coast next week.
Hurricane and storm surge watches are likely to be issued Sunday. Florida Gov.
Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency in 35 counties ahead of the
storm’s potential landfall. Many of those counties are still recovering from
Hurricane Helene. So DeSantis has asked the Florida Division of Emergency
Management and the Florida Department of Transportation to supplement local
communities as they expedite debris removal.

TRUMP URGES HIS SUPPORTERS TO DELIVER VICTORY IN HIS RETURN TO SCENE OF FIRST
ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

 * Updated 1 hr ago

Donald Trump rallied supporters at the same Pennsylvania grounds where a gunman
tried to assassinate him in July, setting aside near-constant worries for his
physical safety. He urged a large crowd to deliver an Election Day victory that
he tied to his survival of the shooting. The Republican presidential nominee
returned to the site on Saturday joined by running mate JD Vance, billionaire
Elon Musk and others on the grounds of the Butler Farm Show. The Trump campaign
wanted to maximize the event’s headline-grabbing potential with just 30 days to
go in his race against his Democratic opponent Vice President Kamala Harris.

ISRAEL EXPANDS ITS BOMBARDMENT IN LEBANON AS THOUSANDS FLEE WIDENING WAR

Powerful new explosions have rocked Beirut’s southern suburbs around midnight as
Israel expands its bombardment of the Hezbollah and Hamas militant groups in
Lebanon. Israel also struck a Palestinian refugee camp deep in the north for the
first time. Hamas says two members of its military wing have been killed in
Lebanon. Thousands of people in Lebanon continue to flee the widening conflict
in the region. Meanwhile, rallies are being held around the world marking the
approaching anniversary of the war in Gaza. Palestinians along a key corridor
there are facing a new Israeli evacuation order as deadly airstrikes continue.
