Only 92% of the reviews rate Citibank as bad. Not sure how it's not higher than that. I talked to 4 Citibank representatives and found the overall experience 100% bad. I have never experienced such a mix of condescending and lies from any other bank so Citibank does get a 5 out of 5 stars for these categories. First customer service rep wants an account security word so I provide it only to have it rejected. So a pin needs to be mailed out since the 2 phones I have available are unable to be used for the pin to be texted according to Citibank. 8 days later I receive the pin and call Citibank back. The automated system wants the account security word so I use the one that I used previously and it's accepted now. Apparently the first Citibank representative just turned a non-problem into a problem that consumed 8 days. Fast forward to the fourth Citibank representative and I get an earful of how great Citibank is when all I want to do is cancel the account that I recently opened and never used. I try again to move forward with getting the account cancelled to be told for the next 30 seconds that it's not a sales pitch and if I quite interupting than the account can be cancelled. I won't continue with the details but will say the overall experience was like I described above except the condescending and lies were 5 times more from Citibank representatives. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UsefulShare YTK 1 review US -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jan 22, 2022 CITI UNSOLICITED MAIL / CITIBANK JUNK MAIL Citibank sends unsolicited mail advertising that possibly exceeds even the worst companies that send email spam. The unbelieveble amount (five per week was the highest count so far) of envelopes are mailed nearly every week. The aggressive and intrusive practice not only fills your mailbox with unslicited mail; it is an unnecessary burden on the environment, the USPS, etc. If you're a CITI customer, you should also start thinking who will pay for printing, preparing and mailing all those envelopes. This practice is ongoing for years and if you were wondering, it doesn't compare to other big banks. Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo, American Express will send approximately 20x (twenty times) less mail advertisement per year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Useful1Share CB Charles Buzeleski 3 reviews US -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jan 4, 2022 WORST BANK I’VE EVER USED The headache with citibank was the worst banking experience i’ve ever had. First, I go to use my card and it wont work. So i try to log into my mobile app, that doesn’t work either. I give Citi a call and when wait on hold for an hour. When someone picks up I explain the situation, they transfer me to another department where I also waited an hour to get someone. They said my account was flagged for fraud and asked for my phone number. I gave them it and they said “sorry, we can’t confirm your identity with that number”. Its literally the number LISTED ON MY ACCOUNT, how can you not confirm its my number? Im literally CALLING YOU ON THAT NUMBER. And the best part…their solution was for me to wait 7-10 business days for a letter in the mail with a reference code before unlocking anything. Thats right, 7-10 full business days of not being able to use my card, not being able to access online banking, and not being able to withdraw money from ATMs. I had no access to my money over the holidays. And the non American reps on the phone hung up on me multiple times when calling. The second i got my letter I withdrew everything and closed my account. Ive never had a worse experience. When I called them after the 90 days had expired to inquire why Citibank had not credited me the $100 bonus their literature, soliciting my business, promised me, I was placed on hold for over an hour, waiting to speak with a representative. The representative, when they finally answered the phone, advised me that Citibank wouldn't deposit my $100 earned bonus until February 27, 2022, forcing me to leave my $10,000 for an additional 60 days in my Citibank savings account. Citibank misrepresents the facts to obtain new customers. Their customer service is terrible, they don't answer their phone and they blithely defraud their customers by making promises they have no intention of keeping. Was supposed to receive account opening bonus in April, it is now November and still waiting. I've spent over ten hours on the phone and in branches with bankers with no luck so far. I suspect that like Wells Fargo, Citi is trying to impress Wallstreet with new account numbers without revealing how many of those accounts are subsequently closed. Because 2% cash back, unlimited, on all purchases, with no categories to keep track of and no real hoops to jump through, is as good a deal as you will find anywhere. It is impossible to work with these people. my wire transfer are always held until their (out of country) support team calls me to verify my information. I wired $30,000 three weeks ago to another platform and the other institution said they had no record of receiving it even though I have all the documentation that it was sent and on my account there it is in bold black letters, date, amount and receiving bank. I asked Citi to investigate. All they did was send an email to the other bank then after two weeks since the other bank didn't reply they closed the case, marking it as resolved in my account. I called and it took 1 1/2 hours, three reps, a wire transfer rep, a supervisor then the escalation manager and still nothing but bad attitudes and incompetence and no resolution. Finally, the other bank said they found it and will reverse it back to my account. If you pay your bills on time and are responsible with your credit this is one of the best credit card companies to work with! After having an account for 1 year with no missed payments I called to request to have my interest lowered. After a quick review of my credit their friendly staff lowered my interest nearly 5% and thanked me for being valued customer! There was also other credit options offered. I was very impressed and would recommend Citi Bank to anyone looking to lower their interest rate while increasing their credit & credit score. I'm writing this review because other credit card companies have refused to lower my interest even after years of NO missed payments!!
