 * Author

Nickol Hutton Taylor grew up watching her brothers and the neighborhood boys
flying big, beautiful kites. She longingly watched while they denied her access
to join in the fun.

As an elementary school educator, Nickol often interfaces with many students who
yearn to belong. This constantly reminds her of the loneliness that she
experienced as a child.

Nickol emigrated from the Caribbean Island of Jamaica, West Indies. In her
native land she would run around barefooted almost everyday, and had loads of
fun with her brothers. These mixed memories inspired her to write this book
which she hopes will speak to the hearts of many.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY...

As a school educator working with students at the elementary level. I highly
recommend this book. It tells an important story to young girls, even when the
customs of a community is against you, your dreams are attainable all you have
to do is believe in yourself and take that step.
Ursula M.

“Girls Can Fly Kites Too” is a beautifully written short story that will inspire
children (and adults) to reach for the stars and to push past societal
limitations.
Chiare V.

This book enabled me to use this story as a teaching point to explain to them
that being courageous enough to try something new is worth the effort. Thank you
for such a beautiful book.
Chiare V.

I can not wait to share this book with my daughter and my students. This is a
story about determination, following your dreams and knowing that anything is
possible!
Renee M.

Wonderful story of girl empowerment. This should encourage little girls to think
outside the box and pursue their dreams.
Maureen N.

Though the book is a short story it was powerful. It tells of breaking the
barriers of limitation especially for girls/females. It also teaches to always
listen to your heart and not the nay sayers around you. It speaks of never
giving up on your dreams.
Doreen J.

What a beautiful message in this book! Being a mom of two young girls, my wish
for them is that they too know they can fly any kite and that their gender has
no impact on their capabilities.
Doreen J.

Great story, I have read this great story to my 4 year old daughter and she
loves the fact that the main character was able to break a barrier and be part
of the kite flying group. It empowered her and gave her more confidence as a
result.
Philip R.

Girls can fly kites is a fun short story that will encourage girls and children
to follow their dreams and go after what they want. No matter where you are
from, the size of the dream, goal or obstacle girls can fly kites and so much
more.
Stan B.
