   My mom was a patient here.   The transition and communication was lacking.
    Mom had to move in on to a long term care facility and they were terminating
   her services because they didn't think they could improve the situation.  
   But there was no help finding another place for mom or once we found a place
   they were unhelpful getting her transitioned.  At first we loved the place,
   but as the stay went on, we got less and less support.

   Very poor care given in Transitional care.  My wife is there recovering from
   hip surgery.  As a fall risk, she needs help going to the restroom.  When she
   rings for assistance, the wait is 20 minutes to an hour.  Eventually, more
   than once, she has been left no option except to wet the bed.  If, after a
   thirty minute wait, a nurse's aide walks by, they simply shut the door and
   keep walking away.
   They need to look at the qualifications of their people before they hire
   them.

   I'm a physician. A family member was here and I warned the nurse and doctor
   to administer antibiotics, or a hypertensive crisis would occur with risk of
   stroke. They did not administer what they were supposed to and called me
   saying my family member had a hypertensive crisis. My family member underwent
   3 strokes due to their neglect and lack of care. They have never recovered
   since their month stay at aurora and it led them to being admitted into
   hospice. If that doesn't tell you about aurora and their care- I'm not sure
   what does.
   
   Overall, aurora took years off my family member's life, and there is not much
   time left for them due to Auroras neglect.

   It's a beautiful facility but don't let it fool you. The TCU at Aurora was
   drastically unacceptable!  I spent 5 days there with no help to gain
   strength. The Drs and therapists might have been ok, but I Never saw the same
   Dr. or PT twice. Therefore, there was no consistency, which made progress
   nearly impossible for me. The aids were uncaring and rude. I waited for 30
   plus minutes whenever I pressed the call button for help to the bathroom.
    When they did come in they grudgingly gave me minimal help then just walked
   out and shut my door. (They did treat me differently when my son was
   visiting, I guess they wanted to make a good impression? )I could never
   recommend this facility for rehab. I shudder to think what might have
   happened had I not had family to help me get released and into a better
   place. I wish Aurora management would care enough to make the much needed
   changes.

   My husband went into transitional care today. I am trying to speak to his
   nurse Issac who is not answering the nurses station in the south Pod for room
   2210. This is very disheartening. I've call approximately 12 times and at
   this time have been holding over 1 hour. When. I called to speak to my
   husband, the receptionist,  Leigh was only available to answer several times.
   Calls were unanswered.  I'll contact his doctor tommorrow to explain my
   displeasure with the situation. I understand although, I have two phones. and
   calls are not be answered by the nurse Issac. Leigh is not answering at this
   time. Its all so new to me I dont know if they have a full time receptionist.
   I will continue to post daily. Today is 0 for the nurse Issac.

   sorry you did not receive the response you were seeking in a timely manner.
   We had an IT representative check on the phone system on that unit and they
   were able to remedy the situation. Our Director of Nursing and Social Worker
   reached out to you by phone early the next day to provide updates and answer
   any questions you may have. Our top priority is to provide great care and
   service experiences for those we serve (including family members). We would
   like to make this experience better for you and your husband. Please feel

   The stars are for the physical facility (it's beautiful).  I can't speak to
   the PT and OT my dad received there.  However the communication and nursing
   care he received was sub-par in our opinion.  (Not that people weren't
   friendly... but for example, he fell and we were not notified that he fell.
    He ended up being septic and getting transferred back to the hospital and
   the hospital was also not notified that he fell.  At his Care Conference, he
   agreed to starting an anti-depressant which, days later, was never given to
   him.  We told 3 different nurses that he might not participate in PT and OT
   without being encouraged (pushed) and if he did give resistance PLEASE call
   us.  Well 3 days went by and no therapy and no calls - so medicare dropped
   him (understandably).  There are more examples but these are just a few.
   
   It's just hard because you leave your loved ones in the care of others and
   assume they will take great care of them in a nice facility like that but if
   they are vulnerable adults, they might not be able to know/tell you they
   aren't getting the best care.   My dad is back in the hospital and so I'll be
   searching for a different TCU.

   My mom lived here for six months. I could not get her out fast enough!
   Between mistakes in meds, lack of follow through, lack of communication,
   outright lies, and billing nightmares that were indecipherable, I have
   nicknamed It Horrora!!!  Looks are deceiving!

   My mother had been placed at Aurora on France for 2 weeks. The place is very
   new and looks beautiful from the exterior and main lobby, (similar to a
   hotel). However, it was not what it seemed. It took a week for them to figure
   out her medication. When they sorted it out they gave the excuse that she
   came from an Allina hospital and not Fairview. They said they didn't have
   access to her records. I asked why it took them a week to figure out, they
   blamed it on her "chemo brain" and she never remembered that her medication
   were given to her. I stated that she hadn't received her breathing medication
   and they told me that they were "as needed". I told them she kept asking for
   them and if they had her do any physical activity they would notice that she
   couldn't breath. The administrator told me she visited my mother while she
   was in bed and she seemed fine.
   
   When checked in to Aurora I gave the nurse a bottle for my mom's pre-chemo
   meds for the next day. I wanted to make sure she had it. The nurse threw it
   in the drawer and no one could find it. Later the next evening someone
   finally found it. She got her pre-dosage. She then asked to be woken up at 5
   am to take her next dosage. She woke up at 7 am, on her own, in a panic.
   Again, no one knew where the meds were. After her chemo no one gave her the
   after chemo dosage (same bottle) and when she finally asked the administrator
   they said it was never in her chart so they couldn't give it to her (so why
   was she allowed to have it in the first place?) It took two more days to
   track it down and ask her Oncologist.
   
   Her bathroom had no towels so she used paper towels for the first 3 days,
   even though she kept asking for some. When they changed my mother's bed for
   the week they said they had no blankets, but she could have an extra sheet.
   My mom asked if she could have one from the unused room, they said no because
   someone might come in during the night. My mom said "But I'm here now!" Her
   food was always at least an hour late and extremely cold. No one socializes
   in the dining room, everyone just eats in their room alone.  
   
   She did say one positive thing - The physical therapy was great and the
   therapists were very nice. My mom has attended other rehab places before and
   I wouldn't bring her back to this one.
   
   In the end this all could have been sorted out with communication. I'm sure
   she wasn't the first patient from Allina. There is no reason why this had to
   take half of her visit to be solved. My mom is a really easy going person and
   all we felt from them is that this situation was our fault.

   My Dad stayed in the TCU at Aurora over the past couple months after
   suffering complications of stage 4 cancer.  We have nothing but good things
   to say about the staff, especially nursing manager Mike A., Anni, Willie,
   Bebe, Emmanuel, and everyone else involved with his care.  We were with Dad
   just about every day until his passed last week, and witnessed the nurses'
   and CNAs' gentle demeanor - you can really tell they cared for him.  He was
   comfortable up until the end.  They were so kind to us (a day or two before
   Dad died, Anni comforted me outside his room and Willie brought us snacks and
   cracked jokes with us), and it made such a world of difference during this
   difficult time.  
   
   I wanted to share an excerpt from Dad's CaringBridge from the day he passed:
   "Dad wished to be cremated, so after we said our final goodbyes, a gentleman
   from the Cremation Society arrived, carefully wrapped Dad in a clean white
   sheet, and put him on what looked like a stretcher with a beautiful red
   velvet covering.  The Chaplain came in with a beautiful quilt from Aurora and
   laid it over Dad.  They then wheeled Dad down the hallway and out of the
   front door in a procession as Pastor Tim, the Chaplain, and all of us
   followed.  Those we passed bowed their heads and blessed us.  When we got to
   the front, I turned around and a big group of the Aurora staff were standing
   behind us with their heads bowed, many of the nurses crying because they had
   really come to love Dad.  It was so beautiful."
   
   Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to everyone at Aurora for helping
   to give Dad the dignity and comfort he deserved during his last few months,
   and for giving us the peace of mind that he was well-taken care of.  You are
   all absolute angels, and we are overwhelmed with gratitude with the grace and
   kindness you provided us while doing a job that must be so emotionally taxing
   at times.
