Millions of Texans have lost power amid this record-breaking winter storm.(Juan Figueroa / Staff photographer) Texas officials have attributed three dozen more deaths to February’s winter storm, raising the death toll to 246. The Department of State Health Services added 36 storm-related fatalities to its totals Friday, according to its final report released on New Year’s Eve. The toll from the historic winter storm — which knocked out power, water and heat to millions of Texans — in Dallas and Tarrant counties was 22 and 11, respectively. ✕ Advertisement FEATURED ON DALLAS NEWS Dallas City Council OKs $4.75 billion budget with modest tax decrease but higher fees The new annual spending plan is $400 million more than the budget approved last fall. FEATURED ON DALLAS NEWS Forty-two of the reported storm deaths, or nearly one-fifth of the total, occurred in North Texas. In addition to those reported in Dallas and Tarrant counties, Collin and Ellis counties each had two deaths, and Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, Lamar and Parker counties each had one. hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition1","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Another one-fifth of the state’s deaths, 43, occurred in Harris County, and 28 more were in Travis County. The deaths occurred from Feb. 11 to June 4, and most were the result of hypothermia or cold-weather exposure, according to the report. Other causes included carbon-monoxide poisoning, exacerbation of preexisting conditions, falls, fire and traffic accidents. The toll from the storm is more than double that caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. People killed in the storm ranged in age from under 1 to 102, and the vast majority — more than 90% — were residents of Texas. DSHS was notified of disaster-related deaths via forms submitted to the state by medical certifiers that specified the death was related to the disaster; flagged death records by medical certifiers; and news reports of disaster-related deaths that were then matched to death certificates. While State Health Services has completed its mortality reports, experts and epidemiologists have said there may never be an accurate count of the fatalities and knowing whether some deaths were storm-related may remain impossible. hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition2","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} STORM-RELATED DEATHS BY COUNTY Aransas County: 1 Armstrong County: 1 Bandera County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"teads-article","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Bexar County: 16 Brazoria County: 1 Brooks County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_1","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Cass County: 1 Cherokee County: 1 Clay County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_2","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Coleman County: 2 Collin County: 2 Culberson County: 4 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_3","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Dallas County: 22 Ector County: 1 Ellis County: 2 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_4","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Fayette County: 1 Fort Bend County: 7 Freestone County: 2 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_5","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Frio County: 1 Galveston County: 10 Grayson County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_6","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Hale County: 1 Harris County: 43 Henderson County: 3 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_7","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Hill County: 2 Hopkins County: 1 Hunt County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_8","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Jefferson County: 1 Kaufman County: 1 Kendall County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_9","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Kerr County: 1 Lamar County: 1 Lavaca County: 2 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_10","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Lee County: 1 Leon County: 2 Limestone County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_11","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} McLennan County: 3 Milam County: 1 Montgomery County: 3 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_12","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Nacogdoches County: 4 Parker County: 1 Pecos County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_13","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Polk County: 2 Rusk County: 1 San Jacinto County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_14","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} San Saba County: 1 Schleicher County: 1 Sutton County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_15","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Tarrant County: 11 Taylor County: 7 Travis County: 28 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_16","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Trinity County: 1 Tyler County: 1 Uvalde County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_17","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Val Verde County: 1 Webb County: 3 Wharton County: 1 hidden ad unit {"unitName":"dfpPosition_18","display":"mobile","keyValues":{"breakpoint":"desktop"}} Wichita County: 3 Williamson County: 6 Maggie Prosser, Suburban Public Safety Reporter.
