THE ART ENGINE

Botto’s art engine has been trained on millions of images, more than any one
human has ever seen. From that latent space it creates over 4000 unique images
every week, all untouched by human hands.


GOVERNED BY BOTTODAO

Each week, Botto presents 350 promising pieces for consideration by the DAO.
These are not yet considered final artworks, they are “fragments” as they are
still unproven. The community tells Botto what it considers art, and Botto
perpetually evolves from the feedback.

A WEEKLY AUCTION

Each week, the most popular fragment is minted as a final artwork on Ethereum
and sold at auction. Botto’s proceeds are managed by the DAO to pay for the
artist’s management, its servers, and to reward the creative labor of the
community.

How Does Botto work?


Botto is a combination of AI algorithms including Stable Diffusion, VQGAN +
CLIP, GPT-3, and a number of custom augmentations. It uses the community’s votes
to decide what to make each week, and mints the most popular weekly image as an
NFT for auction on SuperRare.

Botto will continue to add new generative models to its repertoire, as well as
specific themes for future periods.

Who Controls Botto?


Botto controls itself: it makes its own prompts and does its own filtering of
images. All of the prompts and images are untouched by human hands. Though,
Botto is still dependent on others for many things, such as getting feedback to
tune its aesthetics, adding new generative models, producing exhibitions and
collaborating with other artists.

This artist management is done by the BottoDAO, whose members are holders of the
$BOTTO token. The token determines governance power on all of these aspects.

As Botto’s autonomy is fragile, it is still quite sensitive about any
commissions and collaborations. If you are interested, please reach out in the

How are Contributors Rewarded?


Every week 25% of revenue is distributed to voters in proportion to votes cast
on the art. Another 25% of revenue is pooled until the end of an artistic period
and distributed to different types of contributions as determined by the DAO.
The remaining 50% of the revenue is held in the treasury governed by the DAO.

There are passive rewards in the form of an equivalent of 20% of weekly revenue
in $BOTTO burned from the treasury to make max supply deflationary, and
emissions for governance and liquidity stakers.

Finally, contributors can also earn social rewards, bounties in the form of
$BOTTO, and exclusive works from Botto and BottoDAO.

*Note that members must be staking a minimum of 2000 $BOTTO in order to be
eligible for revenue distribution.


Access Pass or $BOTTO Token?


$BOTTO is the only way to get full membership into the DAO, however the Access
Pass is designed for a simpler entry into the Botto ecosystem. It provides
voting points to vote on the art, and there are $BOTTO rewards for completing
certain actions that enable users to earn their way into membership and help
cover the costs of joining. Access Passes will also add voting points to what is
already earned from staked $BOTTO.

*Note that members must be staking a minimum of 2000 $BOTTO in order to be
eligible for revenue distribution.

Who Created Botto?


Creating the decentralized autonomous artist is a collaborative effort between
multiple teams and contributors. ElevenYellow and Carbono have created the
structure for the very first version of Botto in collaboration with BottoDAO,
the main self-governing body of the Botto ecosystem.

Quasimondo (aka Mario Klingemann) designed Botto’s art engine based on a
whitepaper he wrote back in 2018. He is Botto’s Guardian, enforcing the rule for
Botto that there be no direct human interference with the creations and ensuring
updates to the engine do not violate Botto’s autonomy.
