Before they ever met, they had each purchased the Peloton spin bike. As part of the Peloton community, you have the ability to add friends and follow other members. Once following, you can track their monthly statistics, see them on rides, runs and other classes as well as support one another with high fives when you see them on the leaderboard. Paul had recently moved from New York to Massachusetts and joined a Boston Peloton Facebook group to meet (at least virtually) people in the area with similar interests. After Paul added Meghan as a friend on Peloton, he noticed that she was at the top of his leaderboard and riding a lot more miles than anyone else he followed. Paul decided in May, 2020 that he would challenge Meghan and vowed to himself to beat her mileage in June, 2020. Every day he got up and checked how far she had ridden and worked hard to keep up and surpass her. She had no idea this was going on but by the end of the month he realized he had pedaled the most he ever had (over 475 miles that month) and he wanted to reach out Meghan and let her know how she inspired him. Paul is not the most social media savvy when it comes to Facebook but was able to track Meghan down through one the Boston Peloton Facebook groups using her leaderboard name. He then reached out through Facebook messenger with a sweet message thanking her for inspiring and pushing him to new limits throughout the month. They chatted back and forth via messenger for a week or so about Peloton and other common interests, which surprising they had many of those as well! After a few failed attempts at asking Meghan out (that went over her head), she agreed to a first date. Since that first date Paul and Meghan have been inseparable and have so much fun together. That first date was on July 24, 2020 and our wedding will be two years to the day we first met! THE PROPOSAL It's hard to surprise Meghan but Paul was able to with the engagement and she had no idea it was coming. They were out for a nice lunch in Plymouth, MA. First, they walked out on a large rock jetty but were only halfway out there before Paul got nervous and wanted to go back. She didn't know at the time was that he was worried he'd lose the ring in his pocket out there! After lunch overlooking the water, they went for a walk down by the ocean. Paul stopped and wanted to show Meghan a Peloton video that one of his friends sent him. It was sunny out and a little hard to see so at first she didn't realize it was Paul himself in the video. There was a controversial Peloton commercial where a husband buys his wife the Peloton bike for a Christmas gift and she raves about how it changed her life for the better. Paul creatively took this video and remade that commercial himself, talking about how Peloton changed his life since it brought us together. Meghan looked up from the video and Paul was down on one knee with a ring and she was so happy to say yes! Peloton was the catalyst that brought us together and Paul reached out to tell them our story. After a little while our story had gotten into the right hands at Peloton and they excitedly asked if there was anything they could do to assist in the proposal. After kicking around a few ideas of doing it on a live ride or help from an instructor, Paul decided to go his own route but Peloton stayed in close contact and was excited to learn Meghan said yes. They not only sent a gorgeous bouquet of flowers but also a personal congratulations video from three of our favorite instructors. We are even extending an invitation to those instructors and hope they are able to join us at the wedding! Below are the links to Paul's proposal video as well as the one we received from Peloton!
