NEW ONE-WALL COURTS APPROVED FOR BECHTEL PARK

New Castle County Parks has given a green light to FSHA to create two 'one wall'
handball courts at Bechtel Park on Naamans Road. The courts should be completed
prior to the beginning of the school year and instruction will be conducted for
the benefit of anyone interested. Ray Estevez - 8 time National Champion - will
be demonstrating and offering personal advice and tips to all during and after
instruction. Novice tournament events will be held during the fall to encourage
competitive play.

All instruction will be conducted by USHA Level 1 Certified Instructors.
Competitive handball offers excellent opportunities to create and enhance
athletic skills. Handball is a demanding game requiring advanced levels of
‘eye-hand’ coordination, but handball can be played at various levels from
novice to pro. Check the links at the bottom of this page for some great videos
of ‘one wall’ play across the country.








DELAWARE'S RAY ESTEVEZ WINS ANOTHER NATIONAL

Ray Estevez of Hockessin defeated John Friedrich of Powell, OH for 55+ Mens
Singles 3 Wall National Championship. After a quick Friedrich start claiming the
first game (21-7), Estevez made short order of the second game (21-6) and the
'tie-breaker' (11-5). The 'blow by blow' aside - Estevez attributes his win to a
rigorous training program centered around long runs with the family dog - a
Dachshund!

 




NORTHEAST COMMISH TO RUN IN MARATHON OR
MAYBE PINK ELEPHANTS CAN FLY?

Some of you have probably heard already, and those of you who haven't prepare to
hear your shocking news of the day.  Yours truly will be in the ING NYC Marathon
on November 7, 2010!  Yes, I know a marathon is 26.2 miles!  Yes, I will be
running it, not driving alongside or just in the audience or anything like
that!  Thank you very much for your votes of confidence.  I know I have a late
start as I started training early last week, but I'm going to work really hard
for the next 2-3 months and accomplish this great feat.  You'll see!  (for those
of you that don't know Raul, he's a petite version of our good buddy Jim 'the
humanhinder' Mayo)

I will be running on behalf of the Inner City Handball Association (ICHA)
fundraising team.  All of you know how much I love handball and how much it has
done for me in my life.  ICHA is worthy of strong support as its focus is on
developing and maintaining handball programs in the inner city.  The
organization has changed the lives of many young adults in the NYC area by
teaching them sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and other ideals.  It has
provided many a positive avenue to stay off the streets and out of trouble.  At
the bottom of this e-mail is some more information on ICHA and their fundraising
efforts, along with a link to my personal fundraising page for this event.  My
goal, as I take on this incredible challenge, is to raise $3,500 for ICHA.  If
you are able to contribute even a few dollars to this cause, it would be greatly
appreciated.  Every little bit adds up and helps out the NYC youth. 

More donation info:  ICHA is a 501 (c)(3) eligible non-profit organization.  For
those of you who have Company Matching programs available to you, please
remember to apply for it if your donation is eligible.  ISO/Verisk people, we
have this program for donations of $50 or more.  If anyone wants me to send in
their form for them along with mine, I will gladly do that for you.  Also, any
cash donations that come in directly to me from anywhere, I will accumulate and
submit together under my Company Match application before the race.  That's
great because every dollar donated will likely count for double!
