The consensus among Opera GX users seems to be that something has changed on
YouTube's end, which prevents the browser from blocking the ads. And all these
were with the block ads and block trackers options enabled.īack to the issues
with Opera, there is no explanation from the developers, even though an official
thread (created by a moderator) exists at the browser's forums. Some days it
failed to block ads, sometimes it would load the ad and skip it in a
split-second, sometimes I didn't get ads at all. While ad-blocking in GX failed
completely, the tests with regular Opera browser were a bit weirder. You may
have noticed that I mentioned Opera GX so far. But this seemed completely
random, one day it would work, the next day it didn't. I also noticed that if I
kept watching videos for a while, I wouldn't get the ads until I exited the
browser and came back. This made me wonder whether it depends on the channel
that has uploaded the video, because the ones without ads were from specific
channels, and these were mostly big brand channels who were probably in it for
the marketing, and not the monetization part.

When I kept switching through videos in a large playlist, nearly every single
video had an ad, but some didn't. Opera GX doesn't seem to block 9 out of 10
ads. So I stuck to the default lists and used the browser primarily to watch
videos.

INSTALLING DOCKER ON MAC OR VIRTUALBOX

I/O bound and multithreaded workloads will be the worst affected. File access
from host mounted volumes is slow, CPU performance takes a significant hit.
Docker on mac is, and always will be, slow. It might make sense to switch to
Linux laptop also because of the poor connectivity support in the recent Mac
laptops.ĭocker is native on linux, run via virtualisation elsewhere. It is also
common to use GCE located Linux servers for similar tasks instead of using
Docker for Mac. That makes it easy to switch to host side if debugging processes
with high performance requirements. Luckily our architecture at Softagram
supports running most of the processes modularly in any Unix environments.
Certainly Docker should have some logic to avoid this since OSX’s journaling
filesystem does not behave well when filled up totally. Luckily it booted
perfectly and I was able to fix the situation. It was difficult to predict what
would happen in the next boot because files could not be deleted to free up some
space. Docker image building consumpted the last free 30 GB of my disk space and
caused the filesystem go into readonly state. But there was one big issue
recently that made my laptop useless for most of the day. I have been using both
Beta and Stable and haven’t noticed big differences. Docker for Mac performance
is quite poor for this sort of IO intensive operations.

I run source code analysis processes, git repository data mining and related ML
processes (in development environment).
