WorkAbout BEN LAMBERT Product Design Director at frog I’m a hands-on design leader with over 12 years experience in London & USA. My work focuses on the 0 → 1 creation of new products, propositions and features. I’m at my best when I can combine creativity with ambitious strategic intent to tackle ambiguous problems with cross-functional teams. I’ve created products for insurance companies, gyms, banks, retailers, telcos and sports companies. Formally trained in design, I learnt the importance of craft in agencies such as Moving Brands, and have worked as an interaction designer and front-end developer. When not at work, you’ll find me running or flying my plane. In my current role at frog I lead one of our largest project teams and my day-to-day spans product strategy and vision setting to culture, performance and process. RETHINKING HEALTH INSURANCE Design system, new propositions, new features and app design Over the last 18 months I've been leading a team of 13 frog designers working in tandem with the in-house team for a large global health insurance company. The frog team are delivering impact across 3 ARTS, 12 squads, working wih product, engineering, research and content design. The team have been launching new features to help 5m customers engage in their health and be supported 24/7, not just when they're ill or need to claim. I'm responsible for setting product strategy, vision and working across the business to ensure our work is meeting business goals. I also focus on team health, quality of output and ensure our design process is collaborative, efficient and fun. > frog have been incredible to work with. HELPING DAVID LLOYD CLUBS BEAT THE COMPETITION Design system, new propositions, new features and app design As their strategic design partner, I led a team that worked with David Lloyd Clubs to create an experience strategy and vision, launch a new holistic health and wellbeing proposition and re-imagine their existing app experience. Over the course of 12 months, the team launched the new David Lloyd Clubs app—as well as several major updates—and have seen their App Store ratings more than double from 2.3 to 4.8 stars. Shortly after launch, the new experience had gathered 20k positive reviews, scaled to 20k daily class bookings, and report improved sleep, feel less stressed, and able achieve their fitness goals. > frog challenged our thinking and created an exceptional new app experience > which has delighted our members. WELLBEING, BY IKEA New venture, global research, business model, proposition development, brand, demand testing Over 12 months I lead a team from initial business problem ("How can we create higher margin revenue streams?") through multiple rounds of global research, proposition development and testing. We arrived at a new digital business venture focused on Health and Wellbeing, endorsed by the IKEA brand. With a robust business case we received internal investment to set up the business, create the brand and build the product. After some career highlight workshops with IKEA's Chief Creative Officer, with a product ready to go, unfortunately the venture was paused to inflation hitting the furniture supply chain in 2021. A NEW WAY TO MANAGE YOUR HOME AND BILLS Discovery, proposition, end-to-end flows, prototyping and motion HomeHero’s mission is to transform how people make the most of their homes and their neighbourhoods, using world-class technology to help people free up their time for what really matters in life. In just 8 weeks we created an end-to-end home and utility management interface that lets users effortlessly manage 5+ providers at once. We balanced short timelines with the need to provide user insight that gave the team confidence to head in a particular direction. By mixing 20% discovery with 80% delivery we used research to progress our thinking without delaying. > "There was some real skill in how you took diverging research into a process > of converging. It just seemed to really work" > > "You created a much more sophisticated app for our customers than we ever > thought possible" A NEW TV ECOSYSTEM FOR VERIZON Multi-platform, design system, detailed screen design, prototyping and testing In 2018 Verizon stepped away from it's legacy infrastructure and launched a new IPTV product ecosystem. With a team split across San Jose, Dallas, New Jersey and London - I lead the design of the mobile app - working directly with the Verizon business, product, research engineering teams. We arrived at a new digital business venture focused on Health and Wellbeing, endorsed by the IKEA brand. With a robust business case we received internal investment to set up the business, create the brand and build the product. A $50,000 PRIZE FROM FORMULA ONE Fan experience vision, new features, prototyping and storytelling A competitive brief for F1 fans aimed at improving the trackside experience for those that purchase a ticket and don't benefit from the TV coverage. In under 48 hours we ideated, mocked up and pulled together a pitch which saw us win both the Grand Prize and Runenrs Up Prize in Abu Dhabi presented by Lewes Hamilton. AN IMMERSIVE WEB TV EXPERIENCE End-to-end product design, user journeys, research, prototyping and motion for Vodafone A new ecosystem for vodafone TV. I led the design of the web platform which needed feature parity with set-top-box and mobile. The UI in this video is a screen recording of a prototype I built in React to bring the product to life for th final stages of user testing and development handover.
