The Reserve Bank of India has released a Concept Note on CBDCs referred to as e₹
(digital rupee) and they will launch the pilot project very soon.
The digital rupee will provide an additional option to the currently available
forms of money. It is substantially not different from banknotes, but being
digital it is likely to be easier, faster and cheaper.
Some of the underlying questions that remain unanswered to the mass is what is
Apex Bank's objective behind? What difference it will bring? How to incorporate
offline capabilities to ensure widespread use? What will be the security
considerations for smooth implementation of CBDC?
