MEET

BSc., MDiv. – Clinical Counselling

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

I have always been passionate about supporting individuals live their lives to
the fullest. Life can be overwhelming and it can be difficult to navigate the
various challenges that may arise. Much like a rose that has the potential to
grow in the midst of adverse environments, like concrete; we too, can grow
through the hardships of life. Sometimes we just need a little bit of support
along the way. I am excited about walking with you as you take command of your
journey. I commend you for having the courage to take the first step and
reaching out!

TIME COMMITMENT

The number of therapy sessions needed is dependent on each individual’s needs
and goals. For some, therapy may be a short-term process (6-8 sessions); whereas
for others, long-term and/or ongoing therapy may be required. During our initial
sessions, we will collaboratively establish some goals that will provide a
framework for the work we will do together. We will also discuss the number of
sessions that may be needed. We can always shorten the number of sessions if
your initial goals and therapeutic needs are met or we can lengthen the number
of sessions, if needed. We generally start off working together either on a
weekly or biweekly basis. In times of crisis, clients may request to meet twice
weekly for therapeutic support.

MY APPROACH

I adopt an integrative, multi-disciplinary, person-centered approach with an
anti-oppressive, culturally-sensitive and trauma-informed lens. I pull from
various therapeutic modalities to tailor treatment plans that address the unique
needs and challenges of each individual client. Some of the modalities I
frequently use include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT),
dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT), emotionally-focused therapy (EFT),
solution-focused, psychodynamic, family systems and acceptance and commitment
therapy (ACT). I also understand the unique needs of BIPOC individuals and
support BIPOC clients towards racial healing.

I HAVE HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING WITH SOME AMAZING ORGANIZATIONS, SUCH AS:

ABOUT

Speaking Engagements

ENGAGEMENTS

SPEAKING

I am an advocate for the diverse and unique mental health needs of BIPOC
communities. My areas of focus include racial trauma and race-based traumatic
stress injuries, factors associated with post-traumatic growth and resilience in
BIPOC individuals, as well as therapeutically addressing the impact of systemic
racism and oppression to foster institutional change and racial equity for BIPOC
individuals and communities.

I have conducted mental health workshops for non-profit and professional
organizations, college and university student organizations, and corporate
businesses. I have developed and facilitated workshops focused on racial trauma
and mental health resilience. I am the Lead Researcher and a co-facilitator for
the Black Mental Health Canada workshop titled “Understanding Black Clients in
Mental Health Care”, funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

I have also spoken on topics related to mental wellness, sign and symptoms of
mental illness, suicide, self-esteem and confidence, coping mechanisms and
cultural competence. As well, I have conducted media interviews related to
mental illness and the impact of racism and racial trauma on BIPOC individuals.

Through my work with Black Mental Health Canada, I have authored and co-authored
manuals focused on supporting Black clients who have faced racial trauma. Most
notably, I  have also written about the impact of racial trauma on Black
Canadians, how to therapeutically support Black clients, and the mental health
of Black Youth.
