Saudi Arabia also ranked 17th overall in 2023 – jumping by seven places from 2022 – in the overall competitiveness ranking.With Saudi Arabia frequently ranking among the top economies in the world for cybersecurity, the latest recognition by IIMD is a testament to the efforts of entities like the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA), one of Saudi Arabia’s key national security enablers. Saudi Arabia has cemented its leadership position through several initiatives to build a sound and sustainable cybersecurity ecosystem in the Kingdom. The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has also designated the Kingdom as a global leader in cybersecurity, ranking Saudi Arabia second on its Global Cyber Security Index. NCA is the primary national authority for cyber concerns in the Kingdom. It works to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s cyberspace, enabling it to protect national security and vital state interests. The Authority defends the Kingdom’s critical infrastructure, priority economic sectors, and government services and activities from cyber threats. NCA sets the necessary standards for licensing the import, export, and use of hardware and software in terms of cybersecurity, while ensuring compliance with these standards. NCA’s work contributes to the creation of a secure and thriving economy that guarantees the prosperity of Saudi Arabia, and its people. The National Cybersecurity Authority continues its efforts to build an ecosystem for examining and evaluating hardware and software from a cybersecurity perspective The National Cybersecurity Authority continues its efforts to build a national ecosystem for examining and evaluating products from a cybersecurity perspective at the national level. The objective of this initiative is to enhance cybersecurity in the Kingdom to create a safe cyber environment that supports the growth of all sectors. As an extension of these efforts, NCA is working on a project to develop procedures and requirements for examining and evaluating hardware and software in terms of cyber threats. This project conducts independent verification and validation (IV&V) tests in an accurate manner to assess the exposure of hardware and software to cyber risks. In addition, the project aims to identify and classify devices and software that are highly sensitive to cyber risks and threats. It also seeks to contribute to the development of human capacities in independent cyber authentication and verification, while enabling the national industry to provide independent cyber authentication and verification of hardware and software. This would include capacity building for authentication and cyber verification laboratories and. With the cooperation with Saudi Information technology Company (SITE) NCA is the national reference for cybersecurity in the Kingdom. NCA aims to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s cyberspace, enabling it to protect national security and vital state interests. NCA defends the Kingdom’s critical infrastructure, priority economic sectors, and government services and activities from cyber threats. Similarly, NCA sets the necessary standards for clearance of the import, export, and use of hardware and software in terms of cybersecurity, while ensuring compliance with these standards. Under Patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, NCA to Hold the next Global Cybersecurity Forum in November 2023 Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA) will hold the Global Cybersecurity Forum (GCF) in Riyadh on November 8-9, 2023, under the theme “Charting Shared Priorities in Cyberspace”. This year’s event will be held under the theme of ‘Charting Shared Priorities in Cyberspace’ and will build directly from the outcomes and insights of the successful 2022 GCF event, aiming to advance the global cyber community towards aligning on strategic priorities, expanding future opportunities, and deepening multi-stakeholder engagement. GCF 2023 seeks to expand dialogue on these diverse challenges and opportunities, advance knowledge generation, and steer collaborative efforts. The forum will be charting the shared priorities through five sub-themes: Cyberspace Amidst Polycrisis, Cyber Growth Unlocked, Across Cyber Divides Inside Cyber Minds, and Emerging Cyber Horizons The GCF, hosted by the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA), was launched in February 2020, during the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s G20 Presidency, as a global platform aiming to build a more resilient and better cyberspace for all. The platform emphasizes the importance of international collaboration among diverse stakeholders and nations to accomplish this goal. Registrations and the GCF 2023 program, announcing high-profile international speakers, will be made available in due course. NCA’s Responsibilities -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Key Performance Indicators Developing cybersecurity performance indicators and providing periodic reports on the state of cybersecurity in Saudi Arabia at both the national and sectoral levels. National Strategy Drafting the national cybersecurity strategy, overseeing its implementation, and proposing updates thereto. Policy & Standards Developing cybersecurity policies, governance mechanisms, frameworks, standards, controls, and guidelines; disseminating them to relevant authorities and monitoring their compliance. Risk & Threats Notifying relevant agencies of cybersecurity risks and threats. Incidents Response Developing cybersecurity incident response frameworks, monitoring compliance with them, and updating them as needed. Information Sharing Organizing and supervising cybersecurity data and information sharing mechanisms among different entities and sectors in Saudi Arabia. Capacity Building Building national cybersecurity human capital, participating in the development of cybersecurity education and training programs, setting cybersecurity professional standards and frameworks, and developing and implementing professional cybersecurity assessment and standardized tests. International Representation of Saudi Arabia Representing Saudi Arabia in relevant bilateral, regional, and international organizations, commissions, committees, and groups, and overseeing the implementation of Saudi Arabia’s international commitments on cybersecurity.
