Whatever brings you to Deishú, be ready to connect with the Alaskan wilderness
once you arrive. Take part in fully narrated nature tours, guided hikes, and
bear & bald eagle viewing expeditions. Whether you are traveling solo or in a
group, this is your chance to take in the Chilkat and Chilkoot River Valleys.
Our guides’ insightful commentary will enhance your time with this landscape,
allowing your sense of wonder to expand with every new experience.

ALASKA BACKCOUNTRY OUTFITTERS

Our local gear shop is available to provide visitors with appropriate adventure
equipment all year round. Maintenance and rentals are also available through the
tech shop! Take advantage of our knowledgeable staff to ensure you’re fully
prepared for whatever you experience in our corner of the great outdoors.

Located across from the Visitor Center, a stop at Alaska Backcountry Outfitter
is a great way to ensure you can handle the Alaskan wilderness.

TASTE OF DEISHÚ

Locally-inspired food is another must-try during your Deishú visit! Take the
time for a full meal, or stick to grab-and-go snacks to keep your adventure on
pace. The relationship between the plants, mountains and river valleys you’ll
experience while you’re here and the food that comes from them is a long and
storied one. Subsistence and harvesting are significant parts of Alaskan
culture, and we hope to offer you a glimpse into why.

THIS IS OUR CULTURE

In the Tlingit language, Deishú means "end of the trail." This is the spirit
that drives Discover Deishú, under the leadership of the Chilkoot Indian
Association, to offer unrivaled experiences in their ancestral home.

As you spend time on this land, you are taking in the fruits of Tlingit
stewardship. This land’s beauty comes from Tlingit ways of hunting, harvesting
food, gathering resources. This is not just an Alaskan adventure, it is a home,
dearly loved and cared for. The trees around you provide for all of us. Watch
the salmon runs from the riverbank and consider how long they have fed Tlingit
people. These relationships are deep-rooted.

Tlingit stories map the land and reflect it. Traditional dances and songs, some
with history reaching back to time immemorial, help form a rich culture woven
into these waters, forests and mountains. This is Haa Aaní.

EXPERIENCE ALL WE HAVE TO OFFER

From heart-racing wildlife experiences to moments of serenity in Alaskan
wilderness, there are no borders to what you might find here. Breathe in the
fresh air, the views, and the unique culture of Deishú. With land this vast and
awe-inspiring, it’s guaranteed to surprise you.
