WHO ARE WE? 



OUR HISTORY AND PEDIGREE

Boston Online Home Education is a member of the Boston Group of companies.
Boston City Campus was founded in 1991 and is registered as a Private Higher
Educational Institution. Over more than 30 years the group has developed a depth
of experience in education, pedagogy, learning design, technology, excellent
support and systems which ensure success for learners. This experience has
enabled Boston to understand on a practical level  “what works” to enrich your
learning experience and ensure success.  As a result the various companies in
the group have received multiple awards including “Best College Award” for over
12 years.  

WHY CAMBRIDGE:

Cambridge Assessment International Education is the only international exam
board that is wholly owned by a world-leading university, the University of
Cambridge. Cambridge programmes and qualifications set the global standard for
international education. They are created by subject experts, rooted in academic
rigour and reflect the latest educational research. Every year, nearly a million
Cambridge learners prepare for their future with an education from Cambridge
International. Cambridge learners are confident, responsible, reflective,
innovative and engaged – equipped for success in the modern world.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO WORK WITH A REGISTERED CAMBRIDGE ASSOCIATE:

Boston Online Home Education is a registered Cambridge Associate. We are
extremely proud to have achieved this status and our mission to ensure that we
will live up to the highest standards commensurate with the honour and privilege
of being a Registered Cambridge Associate as a Registered Cambridge Associate,
we have access to the relevant Cambridge support resources which allow our
educators and mentors to align our support with the outcomes and assessment
strategies as specified.

WHAT DOES BOSTON ONLINE HOME EDUCATION PROVIDE:

Boston Online Home Education is a home education partner for high school
equivalents / alternatives to support learners and parents of home education
learners towards:

- Cambridge International single subject:

o Lower Secondary;
o International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)
o Advanced Supplementary (AS) Levels,

- Cambridge Group Awards such as :

o International Certificate of Education (ICE)
o Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE).

The certification and awards are offered by Cambridge and not by Boston, we only
provide parents and learners with the necessary tools and support to achieve
success.

Boston Online Home Education is registered Cambridge Associate. This means,
Boston has to comply with the highest standards of quality assurance. To provide
an infrastructure for the highest level of quality delivery, Boston has invested
in developing sophisticated technology to support the learner and parent
journey. This technology enables educators, learners and parents to access:

- Recorded lessons:
o which have been developed based on the Cambridge curriculum;
o Which are available 24/7 on the Boston online Learner Management System;
o Including videos, summaries, e-books and questions.

- Live lessons;
- Summaries and e-books;
- Assessments and diagnostics designed so that learners are able to determine
levels of comprehension;
- Tracking of student performance;
- Tutorial sessions with qualified and experienced teachers
- Artificial Intelligence to encourage engagement and retention.
- Forums and Discussion groups between peers and educators.

Our technology specifically allows for parent “log in” and participation to
assist parents to fulfil their responsibility for the learner and be integrally
involved in the academic journey.

Cambridge Assessment International Education offers an alternative to the
traditional ‘high school’ options already available in the South African market,
and we believe that by being a trusted partner to you as the parent/guardian, we
are demonstrating Boston’s commitment to building human capital in South Africa.
Our commitment is to education, and what better way to show this than providing
our assistance to those parents/guardians who are choosing alternative routes of
learning and who wish to personally facilitate the education of their children
at home.

ENRICHMENT THROUGH A HOLISTIC EDUCATION:  
 
We understand the importance of holistic education. To this end we have designed
a number of learner enrichment programs and extra curricula activities which are
available to our learners. These include:

- Clubs and Societies:

o Digital Music;
o Online Chess tuition and competitions;
o Public Speaking and Debating Society;
o Radio Club;
o Journalism;
o App Development.

Each of these programs will encourage learners to participate in group sessions
which will also allow for interaction between learners for social enrichment


HARVARD MANAGEMENTOR PROGRAM: 

Boston Online Home Education understands the important role that the parent has
in nurturing the learner experience. We believe that we should provide
enrichment for both parents and learners.  We have therefore included a unique
program designed to ensure that learners  are exposed to the skills, tools and
knowledge sets that enable them to compete globally. To this end, we provide our
registered students access to Harvard ManageMentor® learning modules developed
by Harvard Business Publishing (HBP) - a subsidiary of Harvard University.
Harvard ManageMentor® modules cover essential business topics to equip parents
and students with skills needed to thrive “”in life”” and the workplace in an
interactive manner.

This program provides a further prestigious international program from a gold
standard institution which is now made available through Boston Online Home
Education.
      



WHAT DO WE OFFER TO THE HOME SCHOOL PARENT / GUARDIAN AND LEARNER?

Guardian and Learner?  You, as a parent/guardian, having chosen home education
as an alternative to school attendance for your child and selected the Cambridge
International Curriculum can rest assured that Cambridge is one of the most
successful and widely used curriculums in the world. The Cambridge awards are
accepted and valued by employers and universities around the globe, including
Oxford, MIT, Cambridge, Ivy League universities, such as Harvard, Brown and
Columbia University, and various South African universities.

The home education journey is not without the occasional challenge or two – and
this is where we come in. Boston is your partner in home education. Our focus is
on supporting you, the parents/ guardians of home education learners who are
enrolled for Cambridge International single subject awards, i.e. IGCSE nd AS
Levels or group awards, i.e. ICE and AICE.

We provide you with the various support mechanisms and services that you require
to support your child’s success. Our support and services include tutorial
assistance in flexible learning moments and guided self-study activities via a
variety of media.


WHAT ARE WE NOT? 




We are not a private/independent school, as we do not enrol learners in any
grades and/or at any physical school grounds. We also do not set any curricula,
exit exams or issue awards – this is done solely by Cambridge International, and
you need to register for this separately. We can however assist you by
facilitating this separate registration process. 

We do not replace your duties as a parent/guardian of the home education
learner. You are therefore still required to: 
  
• personally facilitate the education of your child at home;

• register your child with the Head of your Provincial Education Department for
home education ( for South African learners);

• assume primary responsibility for the education of your child;

• provide access to information and guide, assist, manage and support your
child’s home education;

• provide and facilitate education in a manner that is consistent with the law;
and

• choose the curriculum to be followed by the learner and ensure familiarity and
competence in delivering the chosen curriculum.

PARENT ACCESS

At Boston home education, parents/guardians remain the primary facilitators of
the learning journey and therefore it is vital for you to have access to the
Learner Management System (LMS) so that you are able to directly monitor your
child’s progress in the elements supported by Boston.



Boston Online Home Education  is a registered Cambridge International Education
Associate. We are a home education partner for high school
equivalents/alternatives and support parents/guardians of home schooled learners
towards Cambridge International Education single subject or group awards.
