UPS-TEAMSTERS NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

5 MIN READ
The latest updates from our 2023 U.S. contract negotiations with the Teamsters

UPS and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) are negotiating a new
National Master Agreement (NMA) for about 330,000 of our U.S. employees, as well
as supplemental agreements that cover specific local areas of the country.

We are focused on reaching agreements that provide wins for our employees, the
union, UPS and our customers. Learn more about the bargaining process and
our relationship with the Teamsters.

Latest updates

July 14: Until negotiations at the table resume, we continue to emphasize the
importance of reaching a tentative agreement before Aug. 1 to provide certainty
for our employees, our customers and the U.S. economy. We are ready to get back
to the negotiating table and finalize a deal.

While we have made great progress on a new agreement, we have a responsibility
as an essential service provider to take steps to help ensure we can deliver our
customers’ packages if the Teamsters choose to strike. We, therefore, have begun
implementing business continuity plans to prepare for any outcome. Click here
for more information.

July 7: The Teamsters stopped negotiating this week despite strong proposals
from the company that build on our industry-leading pay and benefits for our
full-time and part-time employees. We have encouraged the Teamsters to return to
the table to continue building on the significant progress we have made,
including the recent completion of all local supplements.

Just over three weeks remain until the current contract expires Aug. 1. Refusing
to negotiate, especially when the finish line is in sight, creates significant
unease among employees and customers and threatens to disrupt the U.S. economy.
We are proud of the proposals we have put forward that deliver wins for our
people.

June 30, 2023: We are encouraged the Teamsters are ready to continue
negotiations and discuss our most recent proposal. Productive discussions are
critical at this stage of the process. We look forward to the union’s input so
we can reach a timely agreement and provide certainty for our employees, our
customers and the U.S. economy.

June 22, 2023: Strong progress toward a new National Master Agreement continued
this week, with the Teamsters and UPS closing out subcommittee work and reaching
agreement on all non-economic topics. The focus of the negotiating committee has
shifted to economic proposals, which require serious and detailed discussion
over the next few weeks.

UPS is prepared to be at the table every day until we reach an agreement that
allows us to continue rewarding our people with the best pay and benefits
package in the industry while providing the flexibility our business needs to
deliver for our customers and consumers.

June 16, 2023: Talks on the National Master Agreement continued this week. UPS
and the Teamsters reached a substantial agreement on heat safety—including
vehicle enhancements to improve airflow, comfort and temperature. This
agreement builds on important heat-safety actions the company announced in the
spring. Subcommittees made strong progress this week, reaching agreement on
topics such as safety and health, subcontracting,  and overtime rules.
Additionally, the Teamsters announced the results of their recent strike
authorization vote, and as expected, voting members overwhelmingly approved. The
outcome of this vote does not mean a strike is imminent or impact UPS's current
business operations in any way. Negotiations will resume next week, and UPS
remains confident we will continue progress to reach an agreement before the end
of July.

June 9, 2023: This week, we resumed discussions on the National Master Agreement
and advanced important topics at the main table and in subcommittees,
including modifications to improve the grievance process. A major focus of
discussions was on heat mitigation solutions in UPS vehicles, which we expect to
continue next week. We are aligned with the Teamsters on the importance of heat
safety – we all want UPSers to stay safe when it’s hot.

On Monday, the Teamsters asked their UPS members to participate in a strike
authorization vote—a routine part of the bargaining process—which voting
members will overwhelmingly approve. The vote does not mean a strike will occur.

We will resume negotiations next week, and each week moving forward, until we
reach a handshake agreement. We look forward to building on the progress that
has been made to date, which provides wins for our employees, the union, and UPS
and our customers.

May 26, 2023: We made good progress on key issues at the bargaining table this
week. We reached agreement on several important issues for the Teamsters, our
employees and UPS—including operating priorities, the use of technology and
in-vehicle cameras—and advanced discussions on many other topics. Next week,
teams will focus on the negotiation of the two remaining supplements. National
Master Agreement discussions will resume June 5 as planned and will continue
until we reach a handshake agreement.

May 12, 2023: UPS and the Teamsters continue to make meaningful progress on the
National Master Agreement (NMA). This week, both parties exchanged proposals on
non-economic items at the main table, and five subcommittees met to advance
discussions on key topics: safety & health, feeder (tractor-trailer) operations,
package operations, air operations and inside operations. We are pleased with
the early progress we’ve made reaching tentative agreements on several articles.
Teams will continue work on the final two open supplements next week, and talks
on the National Master Agreement will resume the following week.

May 5, 2023: UPS and the Teamsters have made good progress over the past few
weeks, reaching agreement on nearly all supplemental contracts. Teams will
continue to negotiate on the remaining open supplements and the National Master
Agreement (NMA) during the coming weeks.

April 21, 2023: This week, UPS and the IBT met in Washington, D.C. Each gave
opening presentations focused on their negotiations priorities and outlined key
topics for discussion in the weeks ahead. Talks focused on the supplemental
agreements will continue next week. We are committed to bargaining in good faith
to reach agreements that are good for our employees, the Teamsters, UPS and
customers.
