Bilateral relations between the Maldives and China have seen the relationship
between the two countries grow from strength to strength.

In 1984 by the then President of Maldives, His Excellency Mr. Maumoon Abdul
Gayoom, paid the first of his two official visits to Beijing. This historic
occasion led to further high-level exchanges between the two countries.

In May 2010, President of the Maldives, H.E. Mohamed Nasheed, paid his first
official visit to China, which coincided with the World Exposition in Shanghai.

In June 2015, current President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom visited China to
attend the 3rd China – South Asia Exposition, and the 23rd Kunming Import and
Export Commodities Fair. He was accompanied by Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, and
Minister of Economic Development, Hon. Mohamed Saeed. Numerous company heads
representing the Maldivian business community were also part of the delegation

Over the course of the years, several important agreements were reached
resulting in the further strengthening of ties between the two nations.

This Consulate was established in 1993, and since then we have seen the steady
rise in interest in activities concerning the Maldives.

With the growing interest, the Maldives Embassy in Beijing was established in
2007 and has been instrumental in fostering and enhancing bilateral ties between
the two nations.

Hong Kong is also an important link between the two nations and we been involved
in several activities, the most recent of which have been the negotiations
leading to the signing of the air services agreement between Hong Kong and the
Maldives. This has resulted in the direct scheduled air services between Male
and Hong Kong. Never has it been so easy for the residents of Hong Kong to
travel to the Maldives without the need of a stopover.

At the Consulate, we remain at your service for any information that you may
