We know the weather has been showing its sunny side, but its still pretty
wild up on the Ben!
This was our clients first ever outing in winter conditions and having
previously been up the Ben three times in summer, they were totally amazed at
the sight of the cliffs on the north face.
We covered all the usual topics and had some hail showers thrown in to give
them a taste of Scotland.
They were both surprised just how hard and different the whole day was from
summer and certainly went back to London armed with the confidence to book
their next winter trip.

We love the Lake District so we are doing a series of posts about the
interesting things you might see on your walks on the Cumbria Way or Lake
District Round.
Herdwicks / Herdys 🐑
Herdwick sheep are the native breed of the central and western Lake District.
They live on the highest fells of the Lake District with some grazing at
three thousand feet and are often free to roam. Herdwick lambs are mostly
black and then they gradually lighten to a very light grey in old age. The
vast majority of Herdwicks are located in the very central part of the Lake
District, near to Coniston, and can be seen in the Duddon valley, Coniston
fells, the Buttermere fells, throughout Borrowdale, Wasdale and up to
Scafell.

A fantastic challenge for a small, dedicated and well trained team - the
Lakes 24.
Day 2 - The team started at 7am at Kirkstone Pass and topped out on the
following peaks... Red Screes (776m), Dove Crag (792m), Hart Crag (822m),
Fairfield (873m), Dollywaggon Pike (858m), High Crag (884m), Nethermost Pike
(851m), Helvellyn (950m), Lower Man (925m), Whiteside (863m), Raise (883m).
Finished by descending to the village of Legburthwaite and a pint in the
Lodge in the Vale cafe...
A total of about 21km and 1500m of ascent.

The Yorkshire Wolds Way is a National Trail walking route covering 80-miles
(129km) through amazing chalk landscapes and some of the most tranquil and
gentle countryside in England. Walking South to North you start in Hessle, on
the banks of the Humber estuary, you make your way along rolling hills,
wonderful woodlands, and calm peaceful valleys before finishing on the
headland of Filey Brigg.

This is Anthony Allsop, he walked from Lands End to John O'Groats after his
75th Birthday. Living on chips, mars bars and Guinness for the two months it
took him to complete the challenge, and making him the oldest person to
complete the famous walk.

Lucy Smith and Pauline Ranken ascending Salisbury Crags, Edinburgh, wearing
long, ankle-length skirts, hats, blouses and smart shoes, 1908. The only
protection they had was a length of rope tied around each of their waists -no
helmets, harnesses, spikes or other modern safety equipment as it wasn't
available to them at the time. They formed their own club the Scottish
Climbing Club founded in 1908, after being barred from joining the men-only
Scottish Mountaineering Club. By 1909 the club had fourteen members.

We are sure we speak for everyone, when we say we are very pleased that we
are heading toward opening up! We can't wait to get out and about again.
Assuming the timeline stays as is, then we will start delivering our UK based
events again from 17th May.
We eagerly await the Scottish and Welsh Government announcements regarding
their planned timescales.
Any amendments based on that, or any delay in opening up as a result of
unforeseen changes to the timeline, we will address as and when we become
aware.
Meanwhile, we will be contacting all our adventurers who are on UK events
prior to 17th May to arrange to move you to a new date. If you haven’t heard
from us or would like to take up contact about your event feel free to do so
directly with your event planner.
Please remember that our Covid-19 Peace of Mind Policy remains in place:
should we need to postpone your planned adventure as a result of Covid-19
travel restrictions, then you may transfer to any available date up to the
end of 2022. This policy remains in place until further notice.
