JANE'S THREADS AND TREASURES

I love quilts, especially antique quilts, either applique or pieced,
and I want to share my journeys in quilting !
But, my "Threads and Treasures" sometimes include embroidery, painting, or
spinning wool
and weaving.

It is great that you are visiting, and I hope you feel at home here.
I would love it if you left a comment.

WEDNESDAY 8 MAY 2019

"...AMERSFOORT..."

When I heard about the Sewing Sisters quilt exhibition in Amersfoort, I decided
it would be quicker to fly to Holland than to go to Devon, so.....

This is the Joris (George) church, where the exhibition was held.

What a sight, three wonderful quilts hanging in this beautiful church..

This one looked very special, 'Wandring Minstrels' by Deb King.

Een paar close-ups..

Some close-ups..

De boom vond ik vooral mooi.

I loved the tree especially.

One of the three quilts was by Meghan Leslie, 'A Floral Farrago'.

She is the very kind lady who recently sent me some fabric that I was short of,
all the way from Australia. It was such a surprise to be able to thank her in
person!

Weer een close-up.

Again a close-up. It was lovely to see all the broderie perse.

Then there were the soft-coloured quilts by Susan Smith.

It was nice to meet her too, and talk about quilts.

And of course, one of Di Ford's quilts, a beautiful pattern based on an antique
quilt.

We all think often of Di these days, now she is having treatment, and sadly was
not able to be here.

I loved seeing the backing of her quilt.

meenemen!

And of course I had to buy a few fabrics from Petra Prins, they were too
tempting! But with only cabin luggage there was not much space for many.

As we were staying with family, I had already received a lovely 'Dutch Heritage'
tray with some sweet little sheep pegs from my cousin Hetty, and a packet of
beautiful chintz fabrics from my aunt. (They were in the Petra Prins shop
recently).

After the exhibition we waited outside to see Joris (George) and the dragon come
out of a little bell-tower on the roof, at 5 o' clock.

Next to the church was a typical Dutch town house/shop.

And somewhere else we saw these cheerful flowers..

At Hetty's quilt bee, of which I am an honorary member, I was spoilt with a
lovely wooden and embroidered 'Welcome' hanger for the door that they had made.

After a few lovely days it was time to go home again...

Fijne dag!

Enjoy your day!

Jane

SUNDAY 28 APRIL 2019

.."APRIL..."

MacCullough Hervey).

This month I have been working on the border for my Eliza Jane (Elizabeth
MacCullough Hervey).

Sometimes I get distracted, when sheep are moved to another field, through the
village.

And I carry on....it is a long border.....!

The sombre weather can be very beautiful.

But I also enjoy the colours in my border.

Yesterday we went to the Settle and Carlisle Railway, where my DH wanted to
video a steamtrain. We were hoping it would stay dry....and it did...

Someone thinks we are very interesting....:)

And then the 'Union of South Africa' appears, pulling 13 coaches.

On the way back the weather looks very threatening....

And in some places it is already quite wet!

verlengen...:) Volgende keer!

I wanted to see if the colours of the border matched the blocks, but the kitchen
table was too small for all four blocks....I should have extended it..:) Next
time!

Fijne dag!

Happy Stitching!

Jane

TUESDAY 26 MARCH 2019

"A BIRD IN SPRING..."

MacCullough Hervey quilt, mijn 'Eliza Jane'.

With the coming of spring the fourth block of my 'Eliza Jane' was finished.

It is always so exciting to start a new block

Van alles komt er bij...

Gradually it starts to build up...

Het vogeltje paste precies op de tak...

The bird was just right for the branch...

Suddenly it snowed again, not nice for the daffodils on the other side of the
lane...

All the little parts that don't look good after all, go in a nice tin, maybe
they will be used next time.

Een bloem van zijde..

A flower made of silk..

And a lovely journal in which I write everything to do with the quilt, for
example dates and other things that are happening while I am making the blocks.

When we went to church there were visitors...

In the meantime I had prepared the first border. Four borders of 90 inches were
not really something I wanted to do at the end...

First stems and leaves, the first layer...

I draw around the freezerpaper with a Clover white pen, but of course a white
pencil is also possible.

Some rosebuds have to be done in reverse applique. I left the freezerpaper for
the picture. Normally I take it off while I am stitching.

There are 14 of these rosebuds in de border...

Then my husband calls me as there is a beautiful cloud above the snowy top.

En is dit geen schatje?

Isn't this a sweetie?

De ondergaande zon geeft de bergen soms zo'n mooie kleur.

At sundown the mountains sometimes take on a beautiful colour.

Intussen ga ik verder met de rand.....

And I carry on with the border.....

Fijne dag!

Happy Stitching!

Jane
