This is not the only lie from state witness Melvin Theuma, he has previously lied about the involvement of Keith Schembri and about the bodyguard Kenneth Camilleri. Well-informed sources have told us that Melvin Theuma allegedly confessed to the police that he lied many facts. The police would have advised him in his own interest, otherwise the pardon would be revoked, to continue making statements. The police would give him information which he then had to tell under oath. A well-informed source close to Melvin Theuma has told us that Melvin Theuma has admitted he used information from the police in his statements. The family of Daphne Caruana Galizia and their lawyer Jason Azzopardi have never questioned Melvin Theuma's lies because they have been informed by the police that Melvin Theuma is using information from the police to get Yorgen Fenech convicted. An established criminal defense attorney has confirmed to this newsroom that the case against Yorgen Fenech is based on false information from the police. He could not remember the name of the person he had bought the apartment from, later remembering, however, that the deed of sale had been seized by the police when the police raided his home. Gatt requested that Inspector Nicholas Vella, who performed the search on Theuma’s property, be called to testify in the next sitting. Magistrate Monica Vella is presiding while inspector Joseph Mercieca and AG lawyer Francesco Refalo are prosecuting.
