SHEA GAS PASSPORT TRAINING

The SHEA Gas Passport which is also known more formally as the Utility Safety,
Health and Environmental Awareness (Gas) Scheme has been developed with the gas
industry to provide a consistent approach to training in line with the
guidelines from the Health and Safety Executive.


FOR GROUPS YOU CAN HAVE THE SHEA GAS PASSPORT COURSE DELIVERED AT YOUR PREMISES
IN GREATER MANCHESTER, LANCASHIRE, CHESHIRE AND MERSEYSIDE. WE ARE ALSO OFFERING
TRAINING BY VIDEO CONFERENCING SOFTWARE – ZOOM.

We provide training for groups of people in the North-West of England through a
network of approved trainers.  If you would like a quote for your training needs

WHO IS THE SHEA GAS TRAINING COURSE INTENDED FOR?

It is designed for people involved in operations on gas industry sites, both
long term and temporary and has been developed for operatives, supervisors and
management.

WHAT IS COVERED BY THE UTILITY SHEA GAS COURSE?

The course comprises eleven modules, the first eight of which are common across
the utilities sector.  The remaining three course modules are specific to the
gas industry and cover working on the network and above ground installations.
 Attendees are expected to draw on their experience of workplace safety issues.
 Testing takes place after each module and following successful completion of
the course a Cover Note is issued


HOW LONG IS THE UTILITY SHEA GAS TRAINING COURSE?

The course duration is one day. The trainer uses a PowerPoint style training
package. No previous knowledge is required for the course.


“IN-HOUSE” AND ONLINE COURSES ARE AVAILABLE AT PRESENT.

At present we provide online courses.  For groups of four or more people it is
usually more suitable to arrange an ‘in-house’ course delivered at your own
premises.

Course Content

The course covers nine modules with safety, health and environmental content.

1. Understanding our workplace responsibilities

2. Understanding the effects of our work on the environment

3. Identifying and controlling risks 

4. Common hazards in the workplace

5. Highway working and excavations

6. Pressure regulating installations 

7. Safety in premises 

8. Occupational health hazards 

9. Responding to emergencies

Module 1

Understanding our workplace responsibilities Responsibilities

This module aims to familiarise individuals with the underpinning legal
frameworks, definitions and their application in the workplace setting,
including the responsibilities for both the individual (as employee) and their
employer.

Module 2

Understanding the effects of our work on the environment

This module aims to develop individuals’ understanding of the key environmental
considerations in the workplace, and their impact as employees, on the
sustainability of their environment.

Module 3

Identifying and controlling risks

This module helps individuals to identify and control risks and hazards, and
understand their role in preventing them through a range of positive and
proactive health and safety behaviours.

Module 4

Common hazards in the workplace

This module develops the individual’s ability to both identify a range of common
physical hazards and minimise their impact in the workplace, in line with CSCS
requirements.

Module 5

Highway working and excavations (Gas specific module)

This module provides the individual with an understanding of the processes and
procedures required to work in the highway; this includes both public and
private environments and creating a safe working environment through safe
systems of work. The individual will know what to do in the case of an
emergency.

Module 6

Pressure regulating installations (Gas specific module)

This module provides the individual with an understanding of the journey gas
makes from beach to meter and the types of risks associated with pressure
regulating gas installations.

Module 7

Safety in premises (Gas specific module)

This module provides the individual with an understanding of the requirements to
working safely in domestic and commercial premises. It also examines how to
communicate effectively with customers.

Module 8 – Occupational health hazards and their prevention

Explaining the meaning of ‘occupational health’ and develop the individual’s
understanding of a range of occupational health hazards and their requirements.

Module 9 – Responding to emergencies

Understanding the emergency response behaviours, the tasks of reporting,
inspection and enforcement of health & safety in the workplace. Understanding of
the impact on employee and employer of both poor and best practice health and
safety in the workplace.


EXAMINATION AND ASSESSMENT

A multiple choice examination paper is taken comprising 55 questions.

CERTIFICATION/QUALIFICATION

The delegate who successfully completes the course will be registered on the
Energy and Utility Skills database. The formal EUSR Gas Safety Passport can take
2 weeks for delivery.

AWARDING AND EXAMINATION BODY

Energy and Utility Skills – the sector skills body for the UK gas industry.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

All delegates need to bring to the course a form of photo identification, this
can include a Passport or Driving Licence. Photographs are taken by digital
camera for the EUSR cards.
