A: The election process begins with the open call for nominations, during which any member in good standing can self-nominate to serve on the Board. The ISC2 Board of Directors Nominations Committee is responsible for this process and will evaluate and select the candidates who will be presented to the membership for the election. “In good standing” is defined as being current with all AMF and CPE requirements and having no open ethical investigations when the election process starts (January 25). The portal for self-nomination is open from January 25 to February 22, after which time the nominations committee will evaluate applications. The candidates selected for members to vote on will be announced on March 20. Voting will be open from June 18 until July 2, when eligible members can submit electronic votes via a secure third-party system, which is then independently audited. Elections are determined by a plurality of the votes cast, with a one-member, one-vote system. Final results will be announced at a special meeting for the members on July 9. Members may also attend this special meeting and vote in person if they so choose. A: After the 2023 nominations process, the outgoing and incoming nominations committees assessed the overall process for efficacy and to suggest improvements. As a result of that assessment, the committees agreed to begin the nominations process in January each year for two reasons: 1. To give the nominations committee more time to score, evaluate and discuss director applications. The revised timeline provides the committee with four weeks’ evaluation time instead of the three weeks that was previously available. 2. To ensure that the director elections are completed in time for Board officer elections at the Q3 Board Meeting. This then sets the ISC2 Board for the following year by the end of Q3, providing directors and officers clarity on roles and expectations, and enabling them to set up necessary committees, associated schedules and workloads, and include member volunteers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How does the open call for nominations work? A: Members interested in self-nominating for consideration by the Board can visit www.isc2.org/nominate to learn more and begin the nomination application. Watch the Election and Open Call Process webinar to learn what the nominations committee and Board look for in director candidates. To be considered for an ISC2 Board of Director position, self-nomination applications will need to include: * Personal background information * Resume * Two letters of recommendation * A completed questionnaire including how you will provide direction and support for the organization’s strategy When the call for nominations closes, all completed nominations will be provided to the nominations committee for review and scoring. By the end of March, the committee will put its recommendations for nominees to the entire Board of Directors, and if approved, then be put forward for members to vote on. All members who participate in the call for nominations but are not selected will be notified before the slate is announced. Board participation is not just an essential part of our corporate governance but also an important professional development and learning opportunity for many members. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Who is eligible to vote in the Board election? A: ISC2 members in good standing as of January 25, 2024 and remain in good standing through the start date of the election can participate in the Board of Directors election process. Candidates, associates and fellows of ISC2 are not eligible to vote. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What does the Board look for in candidates? A: The Board seeks versatile candidates in the following areas: 1. Prior professional experience (not limited to the cybersecurity field) as laid out in the Board of Directors job description 2. Governance and strategic planning experience 3. Geographical expertise 4. Education, training and accomplishments 5. Awards, peer recognitions, social influence or other thought leadership 6. Contributions made to ISC2 7. How your involvement as a director could benefit members -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Can ISC2 members nominate others for Board election? A: No. Following the update to the nomination process in 2022, ISC2 members may only nominate themselves for consideration for the Board. If you know a member you think should serve, please pass along the link to the nominations portal. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Who should I contact if I have other questions about the Board election?
