One of the first things to do is to accept that your stress is a temporary emotional state; if we struggle against fear, we agitate the mind. Therefore allow space for your anxiety with a mental health professional to get to know your anxiety. Come to recognize it in the early stages and identify the self-critical voice that sows doubt in your mind. In getting to know your anxiety, you can take steps to ground yourself and talk it down when you recognize it is beginning to appear. If you have suffered from anxiety for any time, you will know the tricks your brain can devise and play upon you. Anxiety has one purpose to trick you into feeling you are a lesser person than you are. Your brain will come up with outlandish and extreme critical thinking placing you in a state of fear and feeling incapable. When you walk into a room, you might think that everyone is judging you, that you are an imposter, and who would want to hear what you say. It would help if you asked whether you're being realistic. What is likely to happen in the worst-case scenario? What are the chances of something happening? What is expected to happen if things go well? Once you think things through, you will likely feel more confident. I have helped many people turn their lives around and become more confident with strategies to overcome stress and thrive.
