Candella Foley-Finchem is a dedicated advocate, seasoned social worker, and
passionate defender of the people of Southwest Iowa. With her extensive
background in mental health and community service, she understands the real
issues facing our communities—from protecting public education to safeguarding
our environmental resources.

Candella has called Glenwood, Iowa, her home since 2006, actively engaging in
local issues and using her expertise to better the lives of those around her.
Despite her own health challenges, Candella’s commitment to her community has
only deepened. Her personal mission to act with integrity, compassion, and
respect drives her every decision.

Running for the Iowa House of Representatives, Candella aims to bring her 'loud
mom/grandma voice' to the capitol, ensuring that every voice in Southwest Iowa

THE ISSUES

PUBLIC EDUCATION

Candella Foley-Finchem staunchly supports strengthening Iowa’s public schools.
She is alarmed by the ongoing attacks on educational institutions, teachers, and
the Area Education Agencies (AEAs) that support them. As a legislator, Candella
will advocate for increased funding for public schools and will oppose
legislation that undermines the quality of education. She will work to ensure
that schools have the resources needed to support both educators and students in
achieving their highest potential.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Candella believes in the critical importance of protecting our natural
resources, particularly water. She is deeply concerned about the legislative
negligence that has led to reduced monitoring of water systems, risking public
health. In Des Moines, she will push for stringent environmental protection laws
and advocate for policies that prioritize sustainable water management. She aims
to restore and enhance monitoring systems to ensure the safety and cleanliness
of water throughout Iowa.

EMINENT DOMAIN AND PROPERTY RIGHTS

Candella opposes the misuse of eminent domain that favors corporate interests
over the rights of property owners. She stands with local landowners against the
encroachments of pipelines and other corporate projects. Candella will fight to
reform eminent domain laws to protect landowners. She will work to ensure that
any use of eminent domain is fair and transparent and only used when absolutely
necessary for the public good, not for corporate profit.

ADVOCACY FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES

Candella is committed to ensuring that the voices of Southwest Iowa,
particularly those in rural and smaller communities, are heard. She believes
these areas are often overlooked in legislative processes. She will actively
engage with her constituents to bring their concerns and needs to the forefront
in Des Moines. Her focus will be on creating policies that address the unique
challenges faced by these communities, including healthcare access,
infrastructure development, and economic opportunities.
