TIFFANY CHANG

Tiffany Chang is an undergraduate student at Stanford University studying
Management Science and Engineering and Data Science, interested in business
development, technology, and machine learning. Tiffany's experiences primarily
focus on the intersection of entrepreneurship and engineering and using her
platform to advocate for East Asian and Taiwanese identity and culture. Bullied
early on and discriminated against for her Asian American identity, Tiffany
lacked the self-confidence to stand up for herself and often doubted her
self-worth. Through her platform, she hopes to inspire young individuals who are
going through the same journey of struggle with confidence and the ability to
use their voices. She lives by the motto that failures are key opportunities for
growth and that it is ok not to be perfect.

Tiffany's journey to self-discovery and empowerment through the Miss Taiwanese
American Pageant has inspired her to use her platform to empower others and make
a positive impact. She is a role model for young Taiwanese and Asian Americans,
and her message of self-love, self-discovery, and self-empowerment will resonate
with many.

LEARN MORE

TAIWAN'S PRESENCE

Tiffany is an American-born Taiwanese, raised in a household where her parents
primarily spoke Taiwanese. However, it wasn't until she assumed the role of the
2022 Miss Taiwanese American Queen that she truly embraced and connected with
her Taiwanese identity. Tiffany's formative years were spent with her
grandparents, who not only taught her to speak Taiwanese but also instilled a
profound sense of Taiwanese culture and traditions. Her transformative journey
as Miss Taiwanese American has been a remarkable exploration of self-discovery
and cultural immersion. It has opened doors to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities,
enabling her to engage with and contribute to my community in meaningful ways.
Tiffany has delved into the rich tapestry of Taiwan's history, art, and customs,
gaining a deeper appreciation for the complexities of her heritage. Most
importantly, she has had the privilege of becoming a role model within her
community, inspiring others to embrace their Taiwanese identity with pride.

The media frequently portrays Taiwan as a political pawn being employed by the
Chinese government to further its geopolitical objectives. However, for many
Taiwanese Americans, the conversations around their country remain
overwhelmingly centered on China without nuance or understanding of Taiwan's
history, culture, or current situation. It is important to hear from Taiwanese
Americans about their perspectives and their roles. Tiffany aims to be the voice
for her community through her platform, highlighting the glories and challenges
of our country and culture.

Despite being born in America, Tiffany is an ambassador for Taiwan. She
constantly works to strengthen the visibility of the Taiwanese-American
identity. She has emceed for numerous banquets and galas, including the
Presidential Banquet for Taiwan President Tsai Ing-Wen and has been featured on
multiple media outlets and news stations for her insights on Taiwan affairs,
including Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly Asia, Yahoo News, CNA NEWS (中央社), World
Journal (世界新聞網), Radio Taiwan International - Rti (中央廣播電台), Taiwan Daily (台灣日報),
Sing Tao Daily (星島日報). Additionally, Tiffany proudly serves as a brand
ambassador for several Taiwanese and Asian businesses, leveraging social media
presence to promote the vibrant tapestry of her culture. Through Tiffany's
advocacy, she aims to bridge cultures, share stories, and foster a deeper
understanding of Taiwan and its people within the global community.

MATERNAL & CHILD
HEALTH

Tiffany has been interested in the issue of maternal and child health in the
United States since 4th grade when my teacher taught me how to knit. I never
knew my passion for knitting and helping the community would merge to become
such a rewarding accomplishment. Maternal and Child Health and the disparties
within the topic continue to disadvantage those in lower socioeconomic
communities. She co-founded Madhatter Knits is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization, that is dedicated to supplying knit hats for premature babies in
the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  Our goal is that critically ill
infants and their families in the NICU will receive our love and support through
their fragile beginnings.

Madhatter Knits has taught me so much about who I am as a person. I am raised
primarily by female role models, including my mom, my aunt, and especially my
grandmother, who have all played a huge role in my life. I discovered early on
that women's healthcare specifically pregnancy is significantly understudied,
even though every single one of us is a result of it. Women and infants,
especially those in low-income communities, are often the victims of unjust
systems. For the past 7 years, Madhatter Knits has allowed me to advocate for
maternal and child health as I hope to break the barriers that society still
places on women and infant healthcare.

WOMEN IN STEM

Tiffany's journey in advocating for women in STEM is deeply rooted in her own
experiences and her unwavering passion for change. Growing up, she was drawn to
the captivating world of science and technology, but she quickly realized that
STEM was a highly male-dominated field where women were often discouraged from
entering. However, her attendance at an all-girls high school became a turning
point. It was an environment that encouraged her to challenge stereotypes and
firmly believe that gender should never limit one's abilities. She hopes to
inspire the next generation of young girls to dream big and show that they, too,
can thrive in the world of discovery and innovation.

In addition, she hopes to contribute to Taiwan's technological advancements and
breakthroughs in the future through sustainable innovation. Her commitment to
STEM is not just about breaking gender barriers but also about building a
brighter, more innovative, and sustainable future for her country.
