WHAT IS PRIMARY HEALTH CARE NURSING?

Primary health care is any medical service that is provided outside the four
walls of a hospital, including aged care, community health, general practice,
custodial, schools and many other primary health care settings. Australia's
96,000+ primary health care nurses play a critical role in disease prevention
and control to keep people healthy. They provide proactive care and health
promotion to keep Australians well.

PRIMARY HEALTH CARE NURSES DAY

The first Wednesday in February each year is Primary Health Care Nurses Day,
where we celebrate the amazing work that nurses do outside of the hospital
setting, in aged care, community, general practice, custodial, schools and a
range of other primary health care settings.



APNA WELCOMES DIRECTION OF SCOPE OF PRACTICE REVIEW ISSUES PAPER 1

The Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) has welcomed
today’s Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce Scope of Practice
Review Issues Paper 1 and its recognition that more primary health care (PHC)
professionals working to full scope of practice will provide greater levels of
safe, efficient, patient-centred care for our communities.

ATAGI encourages all people who have not yet had their recommended 2023 dose(s)
to receive them as soon as possible - with Omicron XBB.1.5 vaccines preferred in
children aged 5 years or older and older adults who are currently recommended
primary or additional doses of COVID-19 vaccine according to the Australian

INTERIM RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE OF EXTENDED VALENCY PNEUMOCOCCAL CONJUGATE
VACCINES

Following the registration of extended valency pneumococcal conjugate vaccines
in Australia, and subsequent recommendation by the Pharmaceutical Benefits
Advisory Committee (PBAC), the optimal pneumococcal vaccination program for
Australia is currently under review.
