How do I get an emergency passport?


If your passport is lost or stolen while in France, you can apply for an
emergency passport. No appointment is needed. Please come to the Embassy’s
Consular entrance (4 avenue Gabriel) any Embassy business day between 8 a.m. and
10:30 a.m. An emergency passport is generally available the same day. You will
need: • Application Form DS-11 for each applicant (hard copies are available in
the waiting room if you can’t access and print the online form) • Report of
Lost/Stolen Passport Form DS-64 for each lost/stolen passport (hard copy form
available in the waiting room) • Passport photo 5 cm by 5 cm (photo machine
available in the waiting room for a fee of 4 euros payable in euro coin or
credit card) • Proof of ID, if available (driver’s license, prior passport,
foreign passport, student ID, etc.) • Evidence of citizenship, if available
(birth certificate, copy of prior passport (but be aware, phones are not allowed
in the waiting room) • A police report is not normally required to obtain an
emergency passport but can be useful in case immigration has questions when you
depart France or another Schengen Zone country. While you can leave France with
an emergency passport, France does not allow you to enter France with it. If
your travel plans involve travel outside of the Schengen Zone followed by a
return to France to depart for the United States, you will need to rearrange
your trip or rearrange your travel plans. The United Kingdom is NOT a part of

How do I get a tourist or business visa?


If you need a nonimmigrant tourist or business visa, please follow the procedure
indicated on our website https://fr.usembassy.gov/visas/nonimmigrant-visas/.
Once you have completed the DS-160 form and paid the visa fee
(https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-fr/niv), you will need to schedule the first
available appointment online. To request an expedited appointment, first
schedule a regular appointment on the closest available date here
https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-fr/niv. Then, sign-in to your account, click
“Continue”, select "Request Expedite" and follow the instructions. Expedited
Appointments will only be granted at the Consular Section’s discretion.

Can I travel to the U.S. on an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel
Authorization)?


The ESTA program (Electronic System for Travel Authorization, also known as the
Visa Waiver Program) is not handled by the U.S. Embassy. For questions on ESTA,
please visit the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website at
https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/.

Can I travel to France if my passport is expiring soon?


NO! France requires travelers have at least three (3) months left on their
passport from the day they expect to leave France. If your passport expires less
than three months from the day you plan to leave France, French immigration
police will deny you entry and may hold you in an immigration holding center
until the airline can put you on a flight back to the country from which you
arrived. If you find yourself in this situation, you must renew your passport
before coming to France. See the State Department’s information on passport
renewal at travel.state.gov for information on passport renewal in the United
States. Note: All other countries in the European Schengen Zone require at least
three months validity past the planned departure, but some also require at least
six months validity upon entry.

How can I check the status of a pending immigrant visa petition?


You can check the status of your application at check the status of a filed
immigrant petition at the USCIS website. This website and accompanying call
center services cannot provide status on the filed petition at USCIS. You can
contact the National Visa Center via e-mail at
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/ask-nvc.html.
Be sure to include your case number(s) and the applicant’s full given name and
surname in your message.
