Ich do not knowe ynogh wayes to saye: support public higher ed. Even thrugh hard
tymes, even thrugh low enrollementes. Do not destroye livelihoodes and gut
programs yn the name of an illusory efficiencye. Supportinge educacioun ys a
social goode for a free societye not a return on investment.

A little medieval mantra by Julian of Norwich for those furiously trying to get
things done before the end of the year …but all will be well, all will be well,
and all manner of thing will be well

I am chapter 9 in this lovely collection! I examine the overwriting of Elizabeth
Siddall’s identity/agency by a medievalised persona constructed by Dante Gabriel
Rossetti. Rossetti sought to position himself as a successor to Dante by
creating a Beatrice for himself in his own wife and muse.

Medievalism & Reception (edited by @elliecrookes.bsky.social and me) is OUT
TODAY! Eleven brilliant chapters on how postmedieval periods summon up ideas,
characters, stories and spirits (sometimes literally 👻s...) from the medieval
past, and what they do with them, with a reception-theory twist. 🧵

1. I find myself spending perhaps maybe a little bit too much time trying to
figure out the lore of children’s tv shows. At the moment, I’m obsessed with
Peppa Pig. So, this is a stupid thread written in the hopes of cleansing my
brain of this obsession.

8. Ok, I think I’ve run out of steam. In sum, Peppa pig is a brat and her world
tickles my brain

9. Oh my god! The koala! Ok, so there is a dead-eyed Koala at the zoo. So you
would think sentience doesn’t extend to marsupials, but then… Kylie Kangaroo
comes along. Essentially, I am just begging them to pick a lane. Any lane. For
my sanity

What is your best student ‘hot take’ for an English lit essay, aka, a clear and
funny ‘they did not read the book’? Mine is that Frankenstein is a heartwarming
‘enemies-to-friends-to-lovers’ tale. And let me tell you, they really went to
town with their analysis. It was fucking great.

alternative there is a black woman owned company called storygraph that you can
use to replace it. you can transfer all of your data from goodreads to
storygraph and have your mind be free of trumpie jeff bezos! win win. 💙

Little tip for lit lecturers wanting to deter the use of GenAi: set an obscure
poem/extract studied in class for the take home exam and omit the poet’s name… I
played around with ChatGPT and it throws out the wildest guesses. Note: I wasn’t
seeking to catch them out, this was a post hoc revelation.
