We acknowledge the land on which Brock University was built is the traditional
territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue to
live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties
and is within the land protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum agreement.
Today this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Metis, and Inuit
peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is
directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous Peoples.

Located in the historic Niagara region of Ontario, Canada, Brock is a young and
modern university in a safe, community-minded city with beautiful natural
surroundings. The University comprises 19,000 students, 5,000 faculty and staff,
an operating budget of around $360 million, multiple campus locations, and more
than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs in seven Faculties, including a
recently established Department of Engineering. Brock’s Strategic Plan 2018-2025
sets out the University’s mission, vision, and guiding values, as well as four
strategic priorities:

 * Offer a transformational and accessible academic and university experience
 * Build research capacity across the University
 * Enhance the life and vitality of our local region and beyond
 * Foster a culture of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation and
   decolonization

The University is governed by two bodies, namely the Board of Trustees and the
University Senate. As provided for under the Brock University Act, the Board
oversees the University’s property, revenues, expenditures, business, and
affairs, while the Senate is responsible for the University’s educational
policy. The Board comprises 26 trustees, including community members, faculty,
staff, students, and alumni, who bring their knowledge, experience, and
enthusiasm to oversee the fulfillment of the University’s mission and strategic
priorities, ensure the financial health of the University, and set policy for
the conduct of the Board and university administration.

As part of the typical cycle of renewal on the Board of Trustees, the University
seeks new members annually and this year Brock is aiming to add five (5) new
community members to the Board.

Brock is currently seeking individuals with a wide-range of skills and
experience to complement the existing Board, of particular importance at this
time are skillsets across fiduciary areas, accountancy (CA or CPA), human
resources, risk, legal, IT, government experience. Of critical importance, Board
members should be committed to the University’s mission and support the
priorities set out in the University’s Strategic Plan. Board members should also
share the University’s values, which include integrity and respect, sustainable,
accountable, transparent stewardship and be committed to equity, diversity and
inclusion (EDI), and anti-racism. Equally, they will bring a commitment to
reconciliation, indigenization, and decolonization. Evidence of demonstrated
experience in moving forward these areas in meaningful and impactful ways will
be highly desirable.

Community trustees serve for a three year term, renewable once, and are expected
to attend five regularly scheduled meetings annually, with additional special
meetings as required. Each Trustee serves on two Board committees in addition to
the Board. Trustees are volunteers and do not receive remuneration for their
service.

Brock University is committed to a positive, supportive and inclusive
environment. The University welcomes and encourages applications from all
qualified individuals, including, but not limited to women, Indigenous persons,
racialized persons, persons with disabilities and persons of a minority sexual
orientation and/or gender identity. All qualified candidates are welcome to
apply; however, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent
residents.

We will accommodate the needs of applicants  throughout all stages of the
selection process, per the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for
Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and as outlined in the Brock University
Employment Accommodation
Policy https://brocku.ca/policies/wp-content/uploads/sites/94/Employment-Accommodation-Policy.pdf.

joining the Board, individuals in these types of roles will be required to
provide proof of full vaccination, or provide proof of a bona fide medical or
Human Rights Code exemption.
