In 1924 Carter G. Woodson founded what would become African (Black) History
Month to educate the world about Africa and its contributions to human history.
The Preston Black History Group was set up in 2002 (and incorporated in 2011) to
research, celebrate and find ways to collect local and regional black history.
We produce a range of activities for Black History Month and throughout the
year. We develop ideas with groups and organisations to share our history and
culture. We want to find out more so we can work to educate and inspire our
families, community, future generations and ourselves.

Preston Black History Group works to:

 * Highlight the achievements of people of African descent
 * Share our histories with the wider community.
 * Motivate community and social development
 * Promote confidence in social enterprise
